Default Destroyers and depth charges

Do the destroyers in SH4 carry a limited number of depth charges? I got pounded in what seemed like forever but I didn't think to count them.

Welcome aboard!

I never check that out (means i never risk to count all the depth charges) but im sure they have a lot of them, after an hour they still dropped charges in water but i managed to escape.
So my answer is, probably yes but they can have massive numbers of them too so the best option is to evade them at all cost.

I don't know the exact number... but you should assume many if the AI is determinated

from wikipedia: "Most U-boats sunk by depth charges were destroyed by damage accumulated from a long barrage rather than by a single carefully aimed attack. Many survived hundreds of depth charges over a period of many hours; U-427 survived 678 depth charges in April 1945"

There were (in reality) limits to the number of depth charges a destroyer could carry, obviously depending much on available storage space. This is modeled into the sim but I don't know the actual numbers. The link below is a pretty good reference point for what was carried in real life. Just click on the link for each class of DD and you'll see an armaments list that includes the number of DCs carried.

They do carry limited charges and it can vary with each class, some do get more than they do in reality. Some classes carry more racks and throwers than they would in reality. If you can't break contact when under attack, you can outlast them until they run out of charges, done it numerous times. However, if a group has several escorts, usually only so many come at you, they may run out, but if you attack again, others may have more for you, so don't get careless. I think if you read in the RSRD support file if you use that mod it list how many several escorts carry.
