GWX? If yes then the minefield maps are included in the map screen in game. Sucks that it happened now mate. Always follow the harbor pilot out and in when you can, avoids incidents like this.

No, it was East of Heligoland. I cleared the island by quite a bit, because I had heard of mines off the East shore...but I guess they went out ALOT farther than I had imagined.

I always pay attention to the minefield maps...adds more environment to the game I think.

Follow your escort on the way out of port. They're supposed to take the bang for you, as it were.

Yup - never go east of Helgoland.

It happened to my boat some years ago next to Helgoland in 15 m/s weather. I was coming back from a long patrol at full speed. I thought then that the boat hit the bottom in the shallow waters there. Damages were minor.

I always slow down passing around Helgoland since then.

I suspected mines as well, but I don't recall mines to be shown in any GWX map... or I missed it.

historically, the brits mined the areas marked on Jims map beccause as we all know, they tend to be choke points coming out of wilmhaven.

In AOD, if I recall, could not one request an escort back to base?

While technically eye candy in sh3 (gwx), the minesweepers do follow a safe path. So while you can't request an escort, like a taxi, you can wait for one to show up, like a bus.

But they don't go out to helgoland.

The minesweepers/escorts run in an eternal loop so witing for one would make sense but I look at the port map to see what the safe passage is.
