You're screwed. The game won't let you steer with the engines, so there's no way to turn around. SH3 had a 'Teleport Home' function which was also silly but did help in situations like this.

As far as sinking destroyers goes, I'm of the "Dive and Hide" school of attack, so I'm not going to be much help there.

Oh, and WELCOME ABOARD!

Welcome aboard mate.

You can go up against DDs and live to tell the tale but only under good circumstances. Namely dark nights and even better heavy weather or fog.
Early war set torpedoes as shallow as they can be set.

Sinking DDs is fun but you aren't going to make a very good living at it.
High risk, little reward and short career.

You are being paid to sink merchant shipping not DDs. I'd go with that.

I'm down there running deep and silent right beside Sailor Steve.

Destroyers are fun to pick off!

Not near as hard as SH3 is.

Best aim point, is the bow deck gun. Moderate seas are preferred, and avoid perfect calm if at all possible. Under moderate seas, submerged at night, running silent, you can close to within 2,000 yards before firing. Set the depth of the torpedoes as shallow as possible, and the detonator to contact.

Once they realze they are targeted, even if they speed up, they usually get it in the boilers, or engine room.

Be ready though, just in case! Don't sit topside watching no matter how tempting. Once you fire those fish, you should heading as deep as you dare take her.

Not sure about the other mods, but TMO lets you take your boat deeper than "test" depth like the real boats did. What is the crush depth of each boat? Don't know. But if you do find out your crush depth, your crew won't be going back to base.

Rudder gone? That means, it's time to have a conniption.

BTW, taking on a destroyer with a sub is just plain .

Wow, Werner, those are some smileys I haven't seen before. Consider them properly stolen.

It's strictly an 'Americanism'.

Wow! I just stole three decent smileys, the first great ones I've seen in awhile. Thanks Wernher! You know where my smiles are, feel to steal with wild abandon.
