Default Suspicious destroyer activity

On one of my patrols, I spotted a large convoy of ships with only three destroyers as escort. Because of shallow waters, distances and positioning, attack was impractical. As I was leaving the area, After realizing I couldn't radio in the convoy due to necessity of visual confirmation, I continued on course at periscope depth. I saw the acoustic tracking of the trailing destoryer break off at ~14KM and begin attack patterns as if he were hammering another boat. However, as I maintained my plotted course, the destroyer ran parallel for about 36 hours. I located an unprotected group of three merchants, which I quickly sank. THEN the destroyer changes course to intercept me. I can only assume this happened because the first ship sent a distress signal. However, I have never encountered any destroyer following parallel to a player for so long. The destroyer would not have turned had he not followed me to be there for the distress call. I had no trouble avoiding the destroyer, but the fact he tailed me for so long is weird considering how many people said that the AI is a few french fries short of a Happy Meal. I am running DarkWraith's UI mod, but I do not know if that effected anything. Has anyone seen destroyers run parallel for so long?

Until you save and reload... or you can surface and fire the deck gun at him a few times and that will bring him in closer.

That's ok. He can stay 14KM out.

Had another shadower hang almost in visual range. I wound up shaking him by turning away and running at ahead flank at standard propulsion and he disappeared after getting past 20km. When I returned to my course and went to Ahead Standard on battery recharge, he never reappeared.
