An inglorious but perhaps practical end for the birds - at least they'll go towards keeping their American brethren in the air, and the price wasn't a rip-off either. I hope a few are retained for museums, though. |

I wouldn't say that. $2.5 million each for an aged airplane (that's only meant for spares, not flying) is a lot more than they would ever get on Ebay. Of course that's only gonna pay for what, one new F-35 for the future fleet? Still, it's not a waste...

Sounds like the USMC have got the bargain of the century. $180 million for all the airframes, engines and spares isn't even the cost of 1 F-35.
However, between this and the deployed ship short of a proper store of missiles, It does begin to feel like Britain's MOD is in liquidation sale mode. ![]()
