Default Retired UK Harriers sold

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-15876745

An inglorious but perhaps practical end for the birds - at least they'll go towards keeping their American brethren in the air, and the price wasn't a rip-off either.

I hope a few are retained for museums, though.

Too bad, besides, it was a cheap price.

I wouldn't say that. $2.5 million each for an aged airplane (that's only meant for spares, not flying) is a lot more than they would ever get on Ebay. Of course that's only gonna pay for what, one new F-35 for the future fleet? Still, it's not a waste...

Ebay ... great, but you are probably right, the price corresponding to the years they served the country well,

At least they'll go to good use. Sad to see them go all the same.

Sounds like the USMC have got the bargain of the century. $180 million for all the airframes, engines and spares isn't even the cost of 1 F-35.

However, between this and the deployed ship short of a proper store of missiles, It does begin to feel like Britain's MOD is in liquidation sale mode.
