SH3 Hi-res fix

Hey folks, I'm just getting back into silent hunter after a six-month hiatus and building a new pc. I've had a few snags along the way, but after three hours of swearing and mild success I finally have it installed and running well.

Bar one aspect; I cannot for the life of me get the hi-res fix to work, despite following the instructions to the very letter.

Does anyone have any tips or a solution that may help?

Thanks guys

OzzyJack

I seem to recall reading somewhere in the forum that the hi-res fix doesn't work on computers running Windows 7. If that's the OS you are using then that might be the problem. I'm sure others will give you a more definitive answer.

I got it to work, however it caused my game to freeze/crash when I tried to take screenshots. A known issue with the fix but one that I did not experience until I switched from XP to 7.

First up, welcome back to SH3!

Glad you got it up and running - although the res fix is a bit of a horse of a different color. I've got it working on Vista (no freezes - screenshots and all) but it took quite a bit of configuring.

My advice would be to post the steps you've taken and what the results or lack thereof have been. Perhaps then someone could spot an omission or suggest an alternate approach.

Many times patience is the key, so good luck and hang in there!

I was in your exact same shoes last night after reading about the high res fix in this thread. I downloaded the fix and it worked first time perfectly. I'm running windows 7 too. The only difference I can think of that I have done differently to you Is change the resolution In c:\program files(x86)\silent hunter 3\data\cfg\main.cfg
open that file with notepad or any other txt editer and scroll down to the resolution and change it to whats desired.

I changed this to the resolution I wanted over 2 weeks ago when I was trying to change the resolution by modding it myself. (I didnt know about this forum back then and didnt know of the fix)

I hope this works for you but there is the possibility that the high res fix might be programmed to change this automatically.

It's worth a try no?

If I remember correctly I have a faint memory of doing the same procedure to a file in C:\users\"user name"\ app data\ roaming ==== might be wrong?

Anyway have a go at that and good luck.

I think you need to write down exactly step by step what you have done to see if I or anyone on here can spot a mistake.
