How to fix record of ships thatr are sunk?

I have sunk 3 warships, two Conte Verde liners and one passenger liner, but my mission crashed several times. What files do I have to edit in my next campaign mission to add the ships and their tonnage so it is recorded in the Captain's log, on the black board in the captain's office, and anywhere else required so that the game records it? I assume I make changes in the Saved Game file, but is there anywhere else? Is there any trick involved when naming ships, elc.?
