Hi there!
After reading a lot of stuff over the years at this here great site, and even registering at one point or another, it seems the time has come to write my first post. Sadly, though, I'm only doing this because I really really want to download one of the mods .. well, so much for my one and only first impression ![]() But at least I can still write a proper introduction. Before that, however, I would very much like to praise the absolutely amazing work the modders in the Silent Hunter forums have created, refined, and merged into packages that deliver some truly great, rewarding, and simply unbelievably awesome gaming experiences. If I would wear a hat, I would tip it at you right now. In fact, I would throw my hat away, buy an even bigger hat, and tip THAT at you, at least twice! Alas, I do not wear a hat, and a shame that is without a doubt. Anyways: Thanks for all the fun I ever had getting blown to bits 150 feet under ![]() Also, some customary background about a much more passionate than capable dude who sinks a lot of his own U-Boats: I started way way back with Silent Hunter 2, but had no idea whatsoever of what I was doing and soon thereafter quit the whole business. Some years later, however, I realized that a) there's a time compressing feature, and b) it is actually not mandatory to sneak out the harbor at two knots in silent running, thinking the enemy is about to appear at a moment's notice. I actually managed to sink a few destroyers after a while (I let them see me, and fired away from periscope depth while they were running over me at full speed 400 yards in front of my face). Some time later, Silent Hunter 3 came out, and even with only marginal experience, I was extremely excited and immediately got it. And low and behold, what an amazing game that was! By the time I realized I kept missing wasn't actually my own fault, but that of a billion bugs, the community had already fixed them, and I happily got sunk again I also tried a little bit of 688i, which I also liked a great deal. In fact, I think to this date that it was as entertaining as it was horribly ugly. I'm looking very interested at Dangerous Waters right now, and am pondering getting the manual alone for some reading and getting the game once I feel comfortable enough about its systems. Anyways, I've been a subsimmer for quite some time now, and once in a while that old familiar feeling grabs me again and I just have to take some deep diving lessons. Last time it was Silent Hunter 3, with the (then new) absolutely outstanding GWX3.0 mod (if you had a part in this, by any chance, consider yourself to be my personal hero, right next to Batman). This time it will probably be the fourth installment, and after three days of digging through a (metric) crapton of mods, I think I might actually start playing my first patrol in a few minutes. After I got this new mod I mentioned above, that is ![]() All in all: (again) a big thank you all around for keeping these games exciting over all those years, fixing and adding all the stuff you kept punching out during all this time! Cheers! ![]() *Edit: Download doesn't work. **Edit: But now it did, and totally rocks the boat! Last edited by SilentPan; 10-19-11 at 11:02 AM. |
