Fire onboard nordlys.
The cruiseship "nordlys" has reportedly suffered a fire in the engineroom, which has resulted in 2 engineers loosing there lives, along with 9 people being injured. Over two hundred passengers had to evacuate the ship. Police suspect an explosion may have triggered the incident video here : Apologises for the "lightweight" text, but details are sketchy at the moment.

What a scary thing fire at sea is. Congrats to the bridge crew they did good placing the bow into the wind. Noticed too smoke was less dense and 'whiter' than it was when video began proving she's got a crack crew getting that fire under control.
If foul play is cause I hope they find the turd, put a halter around his neck and run him up the yard. |

Update:
The ship has reportedly reached 21.7 degrees. this is beyond the maxium 20 degrees that she was designed to take. however, she remains afloat and salvage teams have deployed pumps in the vessel. she is already responding to these pumps, with the list being reduced slowly. A more detailed article can be found here http://www.npr.org/templates/story/s...ryId=140526998 Update 2: Salvage teams have been able to reduce the ship's list to about 17 degrees, Norway's VG-TV reports. That brings it below the "critical line" of 20 degrees, at which tipping over was thought to be a serious danger. ![]() The crew should be commended for there actions during this fire, they appear to have acted beyond the call of duty to ensure all passengers were evacuated in a calm but timely manner. ![]() The two crew that lost there lives in the engineroom were an 18 year old apprentice and a 57 year old experienced engineer. May they rest in peace.

They've done well to save their ship thus far, that's certain. I think there is a part of every seafarer's soul that grieves a ship lost; the only thing greater than that is the loss of a shipmate. It is well they appear to have saved the ship; hopefully, then can soon see to the surviving shipmates.
