Default Stopping Adderal

Several months ago i stopped taking my ADD medication after being on it for ten years.
Some people have told me that it is a very bad idea to go cold turkey on it but I have not felt any major side effects and was wondering if I should really be worried about stopping it.

Talk to your doctor! Ask him for the real facts there, i.e. not just "good idea" or "bad idea", but specifically the range of things that may or may not happen if you stop taking it, and whether your going cold turkey and feeling okay is within the range of those things, and of course whether that may pose problems down the road.

I don't think anyone here should be giving their opinions (or whose opinions you should listen to, anyway), unless they're doctors/pharmacists (and I don't know anyone on this forum who is). And honestly, I'd be wary of any advice you get on a random internet forum like this.

My advice is to listen to CCIP. Only a doctor can tell you everything you need to know.

Check with your doctor as already suggested. Also, check ADD forums, I'd
imagine you get better answers from there.

I came off anti-depressants very suddenly about 8 years ago having been on them for two or three years. It's not something I would ever want to do again to be honest. Long story short: I went mental. It wasn't as much fun as that might sound. It was particularly hard for those around me.

I would advise that, even if you are feeling fine, you go and have a chat with your doctor. Obviously, if your here asking us about it, it's something you are worried about even if it's only a little bit. So speak to the doc and put your mind at rest. I'm sure you will be fine but why not make sure?

Not a good idea to abruptly change any meds without talking it over with the doctor.

Sound advice there.
My ex had similar issues when her GP was trying her out on various flavours of antidepressants - building up the dose on one type, then weaning off, followed by a gap of a couple of weeks, then another type. I'll echo your comments of it being particularly hard for those around her.

Ones I can remember off hand were seroxat, citalipram, then some others and finally venlafaxine (which she had used in the past with favourable results - now proscribed by her head shrinker). Add to those zopiclone sleeping tablets (check out the wiki page for 'em) plus alcohol

We have a rule on another forum: 'No Medical Threads'... it's ok for people to chat about stuff, but the bottom line is always the same GO TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE MAKING ANY DECISIONS ABOUT MEDICATION/TREATMENT.
