Captain has to do everything?

I take it the captain has to do everything, fire the deck gun, the flak gun, cook and wash the dishes too? Seriously though, is there a mod so the gun crew work on their own? And when the sub is about to submerge why doesn't the captain or deckwatch give the order "clear the bridge?"
It's daft and time consuming having to fire the guns yourself and then run back up to the bridge and scramble down the hatch before giving the order to submerge when you're under fire from a DD or aircraft. And why are the ladders so darn awkward to use?
Anybody recommend a good mod please?
