Upgraded my compys hardware but I need some advise.

Hello everyone,
I recently upgraded my computers motherboard/CPU/PSU/video card, now the hard drives and the CD drive are from my old system. The issue that I'm currently having is my CD Drive being from an older system might be incompatible with the new motherboard (an ASUS Crosshair V Formula Motherboard) but this motherboard has no slots for the IDE 40pin Ribbon that connects the CD drive to the motherboard. The questions are: Should I buy a new CD drive or can I use a SATA to IDE adaptor? If I where to use a SATA to IDE adaptor would I need a new hard drive?

I'd spring for a new Hard drive. If you live in USA try TigerDirect or NewEgg to see what you like, cost, Specs and reviews and warrenty info.

Then go to Amazon via SubSim and get best price and maybe Free Shipping. ..

With that very nice Mobo and all the other new hardware it, deserves a Sata hard drive. Holy Jebuzz !!! Don't cut corners now especially when their all on sale.

I've got two 500GB SATA hard drives(from the old system) already to be honest, tryed them both with the SATA to IDE adaptor but that justs removes them from the SATA list in the BIOS program for some reason. Oh and Firewall 99% of my computer hardware is from Newegg. I'll probably be off the local Best Buy store to see what they have to say about it. Personally I'd love to keep the old CD drive since it still works and all after 5 years.

Sorry Kptlt. Hellmut Neuerburg

I payed $39.99 Ea. at Fry's Electronics (about a 45 min drive each way) because I needed them now. Don't we always ?

LG DVD\CD Dual Layer and LightScribe Sata, on sale @ $39.99 ea.

I didn't get out of there with just those. That's impossible. Looking thru PC games I saw a SH3 with an inch of dust on the case and, talked on of the Managers into repriceing it to $10.00

That made #3 Have 4 the one without StarForce and patched 1.4

I tells ya it's a Sickness. ..

Well your advise is very much appreciated, this was/is my first time doing a major hardware upgrade to my pc and its a steep learing curve for a first-timer. I had been planning this upgrade for about two years now due to the fact that games are becoming more and more advanced and where being more and more demanding of the hardware that was in my pc. So I finally found the parts that met my "requirements" for the upgrade, unfortuately the first motherboard had some major issuses and had to be returned, the replacement one which I got on Monday is working. But not being able to install crucial software that came with the motherboard is my current problem. It could be as simple a buying a new hard drive or a new CD/DVD drive or it could be more complex(I hope not, installing the motherboard was complex enough), but I'll have to wait until tommorow I guess to find the answer.

I think you'll have it together tomorrow with a in your post.

Just relax and follow the basic first time build basics.

1. Wrist style ground strap
2. Don't over tighten any thing.
3. Relax and take your time.

And it appears you have Kptlt. Hellmut Neuerburg ...

A PCI(E) to IDE adapter could solve the problem:

or

That way you have the best chances of compatibility with some older HDDs / drives

No offence danasan but a complete new build and then adapt to use outdated IDE slow, old crap to save a few dollars when,, you have a $250.00 + mobo and other new high dollar CPU and GPU and PSU makes no sense.

Read first post. It's a new build. Hell that mobo doesn't even have an IDE Header it's so top of the line.

Sometimes we want to keep old things running for some reason.

I myself keep this for burning HQ audio CDs:

It is from 2001 and supports 1x speed burning. It burned around 2000 copies of my good old Vinyl records so far.

Ok so I went to Best Buy and got a new CD/DVD Drive and it works. Now a new issue has come up and is one that I didn't expect. Apperently my Digital Rights Management(DRM) data has gone missing and without it I cannot play any of my music as a result. Would a re-install of the OS software solve the problem or is there another way of restoring the DRM data?
