This is incredible,On Aplril 2010 I throwed the game away, the game was unfinished , everything seemed so lifeless and lacked atmosphere.
3 Days ago, I said to me ahh c´mon lets have a look at Subsim, perhaps they have something new to show. ![]() While i am writing this message, I am looking at the wonderfull enviromental mod, listening to lili Marlen or J'attendrai , feeling this sub as real as it can get, with the TheDarkWraith version 6.6 User Interface , and many other mods that I copied from a list of sober!!! ( thanks Sober). and Stoianm..... thanks man . it´s you that I have to thank --you´re videos are amazing!!!! I now know how to make a manual tdc Attack!!! THANK YOU!!!!!! all the other Modders out there , simply incredible. Thanks!!!!! The day has come, I have "Silent Hunter Community 6" in my hands, this is a new game. ![]() Harcor |

Thats why from release its never really been a big panic. Given time the modding community at subsim always has, and always will prevail over evil... Or half finished games.

I remember early on when the game was first released people telling me time and time again not to waste my time on SH5. They kept telling me to mod SH4 and (gasp) SH3...But I saw the potential the game had (and still has). Yeah it needed LOTS of work (and it still needs more) but the tools the devs included with it and the ability to extend the game via a form of Python was too irresistable to turn down (and with Python one can import dlls and use .NET). From all the work done on it by those that mod it compare back then to now. It's night and day - quite remarkable. The other remarkable thing is there is still so much to explore and figure out. We have only scratched the surface of this rough diamond

Hey all. This isn't intended as a "wet blanket" post, so hopefully it won't be construed as such... but the enthusiasm of the OP got me to wondering....
There were a couple of (what I consider to be) serious issues with the game that just turned me right off and away during the first year after release, and I'm wondering if all these great mods I'm hearing about have addressed them. Sure, I could read through the 10,000+ posts in the hundred or so threads for the info, but... well... The issues I was stuck on were these: One basic sub type (Type VII). Have we figured out how to get others, such as the Type II and Type IX, into the game? Variety of merchant ship types. SH3 and SH4 had dozens of different merchies. I believe the problem was was with the import. Has that been resolved? The campaign (1). Scripted missions with crazy (not necessarily difficult, just stupid) success conditions... eg, sink 100,000 tons within the next 3 months, or go here and sink 2 CVs and 4 BBs. This as opposed to the more realistic (IMHO) sail to area X and do what you can with what you find there. Fixed? The campaign (2). It ended in 1943. I think this was because they (UBI) wouldn't or couldn't add the tech and tactics needed to progress a campaign beyond that point. Are there mods for that now? I know a lot has been done with the interface, the environment and the AI, but the above is, to my mind, fundamental. Without that, all of the good work that has been done by these guys is just wasted on *me*. Again, this is not intended to stir up any old arguments or p*ss anyone off... I'm just wondering if 2+ years of SH5 has got us any closer to where we left off in SH3/4? Thanks JD |

- still stuck with one sub
- new units have been added - campaign has been revised and extended to '45 - Snorkel has now been added and is working (not perfect but working) - LOTS of other improvements/additions have taken place ![]() In 3 words, you're missing out..... |

Im suprised only one sub type turns (what seems to be) so many people off. I love my type 7. Shes a beaut!
Mofucius say: Adding new subs/interiors is a long way off! Dont let that keep you away though! |

I would rather run a Type II and a Type VII and a Type IX than be able to walk all the way through a Type VIIa and have limited conversations with the crew. Some people like to roleplay, some like to sink ships. Me, I just like the boats. Of course I'm also happy playing my own WWI tabletop naval game, so my perspective might be a little different than some others. ![]() Once the DRM is fully gone I'll probably play SH5 as well, but I won't give up the others until I have my Type II. ![]()

I never could take to SH5 and found it to be too buggy and a big disappointment after SH3 and SH4. But today I thought I would give it another go. Installed some of the mods that have been recommended by people on this forum, and the game is so much better now. Thanks to all the mod creators for making this game worth playing. |

Of course, I want to thank you and all modders in advance. Even if there are mods out there that do not interest me, the fact that such a lively modding community exists and is constantly growing is an amazing achievement. |
