Default Bearing overlay?

Hi. I've tried installing Pato's 3000-meter bearing and range overlay, but I did so without instructions, as none were included in the download I found. I simply backed up the stock .tga files in the game's Submarines folder, then replaced them with the new ones. However, after that the game would crash whenever I tried to load a career. Am I missing something? I am running the Grey Wolves 3.0 supermod, and if I could find a bearing overlay tool there, I'd simply use it, but I can't seem to find one in the navigation map. Barring any help with Pato's mod, and assuming I haven't simply failed to see something that may well be right in front of me, can anyone point me to a good bearing overlay mod? Perhaps even one that loads via JGSME? Thanks for the help.

There's about 6 or more bearing overlays in downloads.

At top of main page Between User CP and FAQ and Rules.

Farther to the right is the word "search" with down pointing arrow.

It works too. Go take a look.

Thanks for the suggestions, Firewall. I wasn't trying to be rude about posting. I don't know what I could say about myself that would interest anyone. I've had SH3 for a long time, but almost never played it because I wanted to do it right, with decent manual charting and whatnot. I usually use games/simulations like this to educate myself about historical subjects. Anyway, all the manual plotting stuff I've found requires a good bearing and range finder, and it remains that the only one I've found is Pato's, which comes highly recommended but also happens to crash my game (I think). I got that through the download section, and every other search I've tried through there leads me mostly to mods for SH4. So I'm still having no luck. Hopefully I can get Pato's mod to work for me. It looks like a good one. Again, thanks for the help, and sorry if I put you off.

Sorry, can't help you with the bearing problem.

Welcome aboard though

Thanks for the welcome!

I tired loading Pato's mod via JGSME, and still no joy. The game crashes out to the desktop about a third of the way through loading my career. I wonder if something in the Grey Wolves pack might be incompatible with it....Well, I'll keep at it. Thanks again for the help, everyone.

hi Wiffle ,

these images (Pato's images) are great ''RAM EATERS'' and you must apply the image ONLY TO THE SUB THAT YOU INTEND TO USE (don't install it to all submarines). if the starting port has many u-boats, the game is creating a same bearing image like yours for each u-boat and the game crashes.

ps: for each u-boat that you DON'T use, create (or find) a very very tiny image to apply.

Thanks, makman.

I've done as you advised, and now everything is fine. What's more, I downloaded your MaGUI mod, and I have to say that I'm impressed. I plan on spending a lovely evening familiarizing myself with all its finer points. Thanks again, and take care.
