Default Hello All

Has anyone been able to get SH3 to work on Windows 7? I've tried a few things I've found on the internet regarding starforce but SH3 just keeps asking me to reboot. I have the 64 bit version.

Thanks
Capt. Duck

I have Silenthunter III on my Windows 7 laptop at home. It seems to work fine.

So... I don't know if this is any help to you, but I just thought I'd let you know that I does work.

I have the game running on Win7 64-bit with no problems, however it's a newer Starforce-free version. From what I've read here, Win7 and Starforce do not get along.

The only other tip that seems to be generally agreed on is that you should not install the game inside your Programs folder, which would be the default location. Win7 doesn't like to let anyone (including you, apparently) mess with anything in the Programs directory, which can make modding the game problematic. Turning off UAC completely may alleviate potential problems but for best results most people recommend that you install it somewhere else.

If you have one of the older versions with Starforce, it might be best just to spend a few $ and get a newer disc or digital download. The game can be had pretty cheaply, usually for less than $10 (US) depending on where you get it.

Welcome aboard

Firstly - uninstall your current SH3 install, then check your documents to make sure no folders created in there. Use a registry cleaner to get rid of any leftovers in the registry. Reboot.

Install SH3. (If UAC enabled, then NOT in program files (x86), if not enabled then default is fine. Only disable UAC if you are 100% sure of your security setup!)

Install patch 1.4b

Use no-Starforce fix (around here somewhere!)

Restart PC

Install your supermod of choice and start playing.

Don't forget resolution has to be 1024x768 unless you've used the hires fix!

Let us know how you get on.

Welcome to SubSim Matey....by far the safest and best way is to purchase a recently manufactured disc because they come Starforce free and already patched to 1.4b.

I'm unaware of your location but if it happens to be in the UK, this is as good a version as any:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Silent-Hunte.../dp/B000FUCGDY

If you purchase it through the Amazon link on this forum Neal our host will receive a small commission which he would appreciate because it helps the upkeep of this great forum.
