Default Had to post this, my closest call yet!!!

After having successfully dropped an Intelligence Agent into Qingdao in China, I notice the nearby port was ripe with Tankers.

Long story short, only 4 out of my ENTIRE stock of torps worked. The rest ran too deep, detonated prematurely, impacted as a dud.....or, ran in a circle and tried to kill its respective owners, please observe!!

Had I not taken action at the right time, that torpedo would've blown me out the water.....or, I may of been lucky and it could've been a dud, but, knowing my luck on that patrol, it would've worked and sunk me.

Left emtpy of torpedos after sinking only one ship

I'm sure my superior's must've thought "Hang on, you expended ALL your torpedos and only sunk ONE enemy ship??" I know the Americans had real troubles with the mark 14, but I wonder if any skippers ever got a literal boat load of duds like moi!!

I think I read somewhere that a skipper only got 1 exploding torpedo from 12 which he fired. The mark 14 really does have some problems with it. For me that is really annoying I hate it! When you have the best attack ready and they dud it's frustrating!

I never got a circle run in two years, I never ever had any problem with that. From what I read, maybe it's best that way!

Yep you got lucky on that one and for sure it would have gone off.
Not much maneuvering room there. Nice screen shot by the way.

Yeah I really hate the mark 14. I just let loose two torps at an 1800 tonne Coastal Freighter, had they not been running too DEEP they would of hit!!! Then again, they could've been duds. Hate it when that happens!!!!

I quit the game in frustration!!! I'll calm down, then I'll re-load and go back to the hunt!!!

Never had a 14 run circular...

I once took a circular run and survived... I was resting on the bottom of the ocean for quite a while before my mechanics got me buoyant enough to surface...

You can usually avoid being hit by circulars if you can come to a complete stop prior to firing, and not moving forward immediately after firing until you are sure it is running "hot, straight, and normal", if that is practical for your situation. I know you can't always do that.

Also, I found that although they are less powerful, the Mark 10 has many fewer duds. It does take at least one more Mark 10 over the Mark 14 to sink the larger ships, but at least you will get more kills per load. I hate the Mark 14 too! It's a pain to remove all them in base and replace them one by one, but it has paid off for me in terms of higher tonnage and lower blood pressure.

Ya see what your new fangled technology gets ya!
Your Brand new Torpedos are as broken as a Red Ringed Xbox.
Meanwhile,I'll sit here with my Mark 10s and my S-Boat from the Great War,with My Nintendo Blowing Japs outta the water like it was target Practice!

But yeah Mark 14s are pretty much worless out of the box. They are the only Torpedo that makes me shut Dud Torpedos off.I also Realized that my overall accuracy has gone down from SH3!I Blame the Torpedos!

Be grateful it's only a game. The real skippers didn't have that option. Modern fleet boats came with Mk 14s and that's what they had to use.

Great photo, eh? Congratulations.

I remember seeing Otto Kretschmer, in an interview, saying that AT LEAST half of his torpedoes would be duds, all the way until the middle of the war.
