Default cant get a few mods to show in jgsme

First want to say hi to everybody, this is the first site like this i've joined, was always leary of mods but you people do fantastic work, i've been playing around with a few mods already but im hitting a snag. On some file extensions when I DL the mod it is ".rar" instead of ".zip", im unable to unzip and place on desktop as demonstrated in instructional video for the jgsme mod enabler to use them. they are shown as unknown format and this happens on a number of mods. Windows asks me what program to open them with and i have no idea what to do. I dont know if its my fault or if im doing something wrong or missing a step. And rather than embarrass myself later i'll tell you now im not the most computer literate compared to some of the people on this forum, i know enough to keep my PC safe and perform moderate fixes so forgive me if i ask you to keep it simple terms.

WELCOME ABOARD!

Stoianm gave you the right advice. 7-Zip will unpack .rar files as well as .zip. You'll find yourself in good hands here.
