Default Unusual steam sounds

Whenever I start up a mission, I hear steam as the interior of the boat comes into view. That wasn't unusual, but now it's overlapped several times. It's deafening to the point where I can take off my earbuds and still hear it from across the room.

I've been playing with the sound files, but so far I haven't modified anything related to steam. Any ideas on what could be causing this?

Mods installed:
GWX Enhanced Damage
GWX Lite Harbor Traffic
GWX No Medals on Crew
GWX Captain America's Icons
GWX Axis Mediterranean Aircraft Skins
Enhanced Torpedo Damage
All Weather Guns
Seabed Repair
Rowi58's Flower Corvette
WB's Mission Orders Lite
Q Ships
Bakkel's Type IX Skins
My (Missing Name's) Mod - sh3.sdl HAS been modified, but nothing with steam.

I always hear that sound at startup of a new patrol or any saved game when my ship has not yet taken significant damage.

If I've absorbed a few DC attacks, I hear glass breaking and actually see it falling out of the gauges.

Same here. It used to freak me out as I would think the save had loaded and all of a sudden I was under attack.

My last patrol, every mid-patrol save would load up and I'd get the sound fx and then a report that our decoys or whatever had been destroyed. Which was kinda interesting cuz I didn't know we had any on board yet.

You know something...I'd never noticed that until I read this post

As for the glass shattering in the guages...that is the games way of accepting and adjusting any damage you may have incurred prior to saving.

If it sounds like every toilet in the world flushing at once, it's and old bug from what I recall. Has something to do with your soundcard setup.
Been so long since I heard a comment on it, and I just ignore it when it happens.

So it's a known bug of sorts? Seems like I won't be able to fix this one then.

Well, no matter. I can just mute it for a few seconds when I start up a new mission.

If I recall correctly it's actually the sound you hear when the boat scrapes a sub net, or at least that's the explanation given years ago. Go to the Data/Sound and listen to Collision_AntiSubmarineNet_int and see if that's the sound you hear. I hear nothing when I play that one because I used Sound Recorder to mute it years ago, for that very reason.

Well, it's not permanent.
This patrol is fine.
Nice and quiet again.
