One Cop Shoots Another in an apparent Murder Suicide Attempt

Quebec's provincial police force says a 45-year-old male officer died from what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, after he apparently shot a 33-year-old woman in the leg.
The Surete du Quebec made the announcement Monday following a 36-hour blackout about the incident, which took place in a condominium along Montreal's south shore.

Investigators believe the male officer may have shot and wounded the woman, who is also a member of the force, before turning the gun on himself Sunday.
Both victims were taken to hospital. The male officer succumbed to his injuries while the woman was treated for a leg injury and shock.
It's not clear whether the male officer shot the woman intentionally, said Martin Simard of Longueuil police.
"Investigators have interviewed her already and will likely do so again in the coming days," Simard told The Canadian Press.
He said the pair knew each other, but would not confirm whether they were romantically involved.
The incident occurred in Brossard, Que., at the woman's condo, where police were summoned after neighbours heard a struggle followed by gunshots on Saturday evening.
There was no one else in the condo when police arrived.


Longueuil police haven't said whether the gun used in the shootings was a service weapon. Police officers in Quebec do not usually take their weapon home when they're off-duty.
The Surete du Quebec has not disclosed the identity or position of the 45-year-old victim. But it did issue a brief statement about the incident on Monday.
"Our thoughts are with the injured woman, her family, and that of the other person involved," the statement said.
The force also said it would provide counselling to the 33-year-old woman, colleagues, and families of both victims.
