IS SH5 WORTH NOW MAY 2011?, and other ideas
after the total disater that was sh5, i am now (since they are bargain bin priced atm) thinking about buying the game
i played sh4, was ok, supposing i can live with the awful drm , is it worth the time to play it? are the bugs fixed? what mods are good, easy to install, and fix bugs. i am looking at enviromental,CAMPAIGN , and interface mods, i dont want a super realistic mod , since is too much of a pain, (more dud torpedoes....for instance..., magical destroyers etc). there are hundreds here, and i have a job, so you will understand time constrains, i just cant juggle lots of mods which might be uncompatible or cause CTD. maybe the moderators could mark the mods so we knew wich ones are good or not. but in any case what do you experience people recommend? ( please please not manual torpedo target mods .) thank you so much. also has anyone(groups of modders) thought of contacting ubisoft, re=release the game with a new campaign not ending in 1943 and get paid for it ? ( you deserve it , it pisses me off modders get nothing for their work ). just a possibility, the game tanked so much ubisoft might be interested in doing a deal and employing some people to recoup some money...... for instance if you where soooo good at your submarine fleet, it could even disrupt the USA landings and make the war won by the Germans , not truly realistic, but imagine the boom if your sub fleet was responsible for winning the war....... regards cyllan Last edited by cyllan; 05-15-11 at 03:50 AM. |

Its possible UBi would licence another company to make an expansion pack - like they did with SH3. BUt if the game has sold as badly as people are saying then there are not going to be any takers. Its sad to think that SHV and its engine has somewhat gone to waste, what is in there in there is pretty good, but it needs alot more. Modders can only do so much as there are aren't many of them and they only have so much free time. Bottom line is that SHV really needed another 6-12 months additional development time in the first place. It didnt get it, it got DRM'd and condemed by large proportion of its target audiance. What ever happens in the future, its gonna be too little too late to 'turn it around' for the masses, that ship has sailed. When a game has doesnt have a good rep on release - it sticks like glue. |

sounds like a hint of brainwashing to me.
People over exaggerate the seriousness of DRM. first of all, constant DRM has been removed. Second, DRM is NOT a big enough deal to completely steer clear of the game. The game, JUST like SH4, was buggy at the start. with mods SH5 has surpassed SH4 in almost every way. This game is VERY enjoyable, and it sounds to me like the domino effect reaching all these people not wanting to buy it because of DRM. A couple people hate DRM, and then it spreads to make people think DRM is something that WAS someithng that was unbearable. Now, constant connection has bee dropped. You now only need internet for startup. and people still refuse to buy it because of DRM. i think you need to get over it and start looking at the possibilities this game has to offer you now.

To be honest. I don't think YOU would be happy with SH5.
![]() No offence but, your post sounded kind of negitive. So save your $10.00 and buy something you'll like. ![]() |

![]() And, don't worry about us modders, we don't need money for our work, a little recognition is more than enough in my book. ![]() Quote:

Before you read something into that that isn't there, given the price right now I think it's silly to ask the question. Just buy it and find out.

Do I like having to check at start up, no. But, at least we are heading in the right direction. Agreed, about buying and finding out for yourself, the price couldn't be more right.

Just so theres no misunderstandings. I have SH5 installed and heavily modded.
Just like I have multi-installs of SH3 and SH4-UBM heavily modded. I like them all. ![]() ![]() Well you saw my polite response. Besides all the answers are there repetively on SH5 Forum F.T.L.O.C. ![]() SH3-5 have had alot of hard work put in to them. Their threads at least deserve a reading. |

What happens when UBI says, "screw it", and pulls the plug on the DRM server? Then no one will be able to play SH5 at all!

Not the case. Ubisoft is legally bound to release a "patch" to allow purchasers to play DRM free if that were to happen.

Well to be honest... I was the "flagship" of SH5 resistance and critics... and following some events:
- dropped restrictive DRM - Doubled web-speed by my internet provider - new campaign (gameplay) on horizon... (Zeni ?) - total disappointment with expected Cliffs of Dover (alternative sim) - Some gorgeous new graphics ...etc. I am seriously reconsidering the order of SH5. I still think that Ubi does not deserve any of our "bucks" but this gorgeous modding community deserves my attention... There are still some "nails in a coffin"... like missing normal 3d torpedo-splash or fixed external-view to U-boat... immersion killers. ( Sub-simulation without 3d torp water-splash... is like Soccer World Cup without goals and nets) All togather... if your life offers you a lemon - make a lemonade. ![]()
