Default Umm a little weird question but I do not know where to ask so let me just shoot this

If I sit on the floor cross legged like in meditative stance and my mind begin to remember God or I have God in my mind or in prayer, while in that stance, my body(torso up) would begin to move automatically, jerking in rhythm. It may begin weak but then gather its pace. I can stop it anytime and it will stop when I no longer have God in my mind. If I stay neutral with respect with my body posture my body would jerk. Nothing extreme, the movement feels like you're in a small swing chair. . . . . .The funny thing it would stop naturally when I stop praying or no longer have God in my mind. Simply having God in my mind would trigger the jerking rhythm again.

Does anybody know what could be causing it?

The human body is an amazing thing.

Sounds a little like a nerve impulse that's triggered by your putting your body into some physiological state.

Can you replicate this reaction if you're sitting upright in a chair, rather than cross-legged on the floor? Or does this only happen then?

I imagine that if it's only when you're sitting on the deck, that it's related somehow to the nerves/muscles in your lower back or upper legs; likely some nerve or blood vessel pressure.

How could anyone answer unless they knew the name of the god you pray to?

I'm guessing the christian god, since he did write it God (with a capital letter)

Don't know the answer. Could be some subconcies reaction. Could it be that your mother would rock you gently while talking about god to you and you remembered that motion on a subconcies level ?? The meditaion about god would bring that out

"As a man thinketh, so is he."

We can create many effects simply because we program our mind to react to certain beliefs, it happens with all religions.

Many times because of belief, our subconcious takes over and tells our body to react a certain way. We want physical experiences that tell us what we believe is true and doesn't matter if it's true or not, your mind believes them, you will make it happen in your life.

Capitalization of the word God or G-d may refer to Him, but not necessarily so. He does have a name.

The bobbing back and forth I don't know about. As far as I know their is one transformation, the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. One of the express duties of the Comfortor is to write God's Commandments on the tablets of our heart. Therefore the only experience stemming from belief that I know of. Is joy from knowing the truth and simply learning, knowing and abiding in His Commandments. That I think is our only "biblical" proof we love Him.

He was reffering to him as God, and only christians say God, when refering to their deity (muslims say Alah, which is God, but they always say Alah). But yes, he could have reffered to him as Jahve, which is the original word for the christian god... teological philosophical discussion.... and as I said, I was guessing

Castout is christian as hell. So yes, he means the christian god.

The thing is, Castout, what do you want to hear? I've got the assumption you only post this here because you need people to confirm it is indeed your god who causes the shaking, and you're just waiting for that confirmation. If someone came up with a plausible explanation having nothing to do with the christian god (and I'm sure there are dozens), would you believe him? I think you want to have some kind of confirmation for yourself it is indeed caused by the christian god. Well, nobody can tell you for sure. (Personally I'm sure the christian god doesn't exist, but would you believe that? Exactly. That's the point.)
If you believe it's the christian god that's causing the shaking, I'd say continue believing so and be happy about it. Don't ask other people because they can never tell the truth about it anyways because everyone is biased. A very religious christian will probably say it's very possible it's indeed your god that's causing the moving, while an atheist or someone of a different faith will come up with a different explanation and not even consider the countless religious possibilities. Since you're biased as well, you'd probably choose the explanation that best suits your own ideas. And thus end up with the "confirmation" it's indeed god. Please spare this to yourself.

Just my 2 cents

I think it's effect, just like Binny Hinn can woo people or even entire crowds to fall over into trances and fits. We make what we want to happen.

I think so far CO says God visited him in person, gave him a personal earthquake and now shaking fits... As stated, if you feel hapy about it and believe these things and they make you a better person, no need telling anyone. If God does these things in private, then maybe they should be kept private.

I spent my teens and almost up to 30 years of age in a fundy church, 3 years of bible college and a youth minister in our church. I could work myself up in prayer to where the hair would crawl up on my neck, waiting to see or feel some physical revelation from God. I'm not sure why we seek such things when Christ said we now operate on faith and his teachings, not feelings, trances or emotions, because they often mislead us.

If you go into meditation or trance like states, you've already given your brain the food it needs to create the outcome.

Christ didn't speak of these things, in fact he spoke against such. His message is to be loving, go out and take care of the sick and poor, be meek, do not live in confusion and all that you do, do it in secret not before men.

A good friend of mine got so into seeking physical anything from God. He called one night and said God spoke to him through his computer several times...He could barely make out the words through the static in the speakers, but something like "change is coming, serve your Lord".. I went to his house and waited one night...finally I heard some words...Nothing more than some residue local AM radio traffic coming through his PC. Not sure how or why it happens, but has happened to me a few times.

I tend to agree with Darkfish.

People are constantly seeking validation of their belief system. and you should just go on continuing whatever it is you believe and be happy. There will be a large number of theories and responses to your question... some of them contradictory to what you believe - and those contradictory opinions will never convince someone who is already firmly committed to their beliefs.

The difference between Darkfish and I being that i agree in the Christian Concept of God, and consider myself to be Christian - but i often feel lost in the meaningless ritual and the hypocritical nature of many Christian people.

I think that there is a perfectly logical medical explanation for what you are experiencing.

Though anyone can debunk the existence of God through science - personally i think science is the thing by which God's actions are governed.

Any of us could tell you "Yes... 100% fact. thats God at work." or "No... not God, just the nerve in your lower back being pinched sending your brain a signal that your lower body is dieing and the jerking is your brain's survivalist reaction - the same behavior observed in the onset of sleep." but in the end... what do we know?

what do any of us really know?

I dunno, I only get involuntary, uh, body movements when I sit down cross-legged and think of naked women. What does that mean?
