Too many Mods?

After spending the last four days trying to get a stable modded version of SH5 together I've finally had to give up with a combination of MO and TDW's latest New UIs 6.5 (Plus all the others on Stoiamn's list) and it's just been crash after crash after crash at all different points. I don't think it ever ran more than 5 minutes. Is there something in MO (with patch 2 installed) and TDW's New UI 6.5 that clashes? Is there any sign on the horizon of a version of MO that can be installed in one when you're in port, or are we going to have to be installing "updates" on a weekly basis for the dozens of mods that most people install over and above the "basic" MO? If there's to be a megamod (and I assume that IS the idea behind ALL the great modders working away furiously) then let's have one. A mini megamod with 120 tweaks, patches, alterations and nice-to-haves to make it a "slightly-less-mini-megamod-until-we-can-release-a-midi-megamod" seems self defeating to me.

Criticising? Yes, I guess I am. But that's through sheer frustration and I'm not in any way knocking the huge efforts by many people to produce some of the amazing work that's already been achieved. All I'm saying is let's not spoil it by having something that should be magnificent look as if it's held together with bubble gum and string.

Right now I've uninstalled SH5 yet again thinking I might have just a little enthusiasm left to start all over again in the morning. There again, maybe SH3 and GWX will need to have a run for the first time in long time. A step backwards some might say............perhaps............but at least it works.

The next version of MO will not be released until Zedi is done with the campaign, the new ships are added, and I fix the problems (remaining) with the mines, subnets, and Dolphins. IRAI has to be updated to accomodate all these new items also. If the new items for the harbors are complete those will be added also.
I am but one person. There's only so much I can do in a day
New advancements are being made almost daily now. This is an exciting time for SH5

Wait a little mate.

First of all, don´t get angry with SH5. Modders are making it look polished. Lot of SUPERB improvements are being done for the Megamod right now. New Campaign, more ships (after 1 year they now can be imported), more intelligent IA, new Environment, etc.

And another thing, we are not blind or deaf. English is your native language. Lot of other people here and me doesn´t have that "luck". Post your issues or mod problems. Show us your mod list and we could help you in the SH5 main forum or here.
There is a post called "List your Mod Loadout" here:
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=173193

Worst you can do is come here and cry because the game doesn´t run. I spent one complete day a few days ago because of I tested new versions of mods. With a few question to mod makers I had all the stuff running perfect.

The worst task you could do is the one you don´t do.

(Sorry for my bad english)

Dont wanna argue, but SH3 is not better in any way. Just these days I tried to install it and add gwx and few other mods, but I had to give up. First of all, starting a 10 yo game on w7 is already a huge pita. Then download gwx which is packed in multiple parts, patch after patch (official ones) etc.. made me to quit.

Problem is that many people, mostly the newcomers, use every mod they just see around here, so they might end up using 30-50 mods and that ofc will cause a lot of problems. Dont install mods just because you were told so. See what each mod do and if you really need it.

I agree, there are many modders who have done some absolutely wonderful work and a lot of those same modders have been around the whole SH thing as long as I have (I hate to think just how many years that actually is now!) and I was in NO WAY knocking their individual efforts, far from it!

What I WAS trying to express, however, was the fact that, at the moment, being in a sort of no-man's-land between a fundamentally-flawed original game and a suitably-enhanced, enjoyable and immersive sim is an extremely frustrating place to be especially for those of us who much prefer a sim to a game. HUGE strides HAVE been made thanks to the dedication and vision of a large group of people and that's speaks volumes about the desire to create something truly exceptional such as a fully-packaged MO.

Until then, however, what we've got is what we've got.........a huge choice of bits and pieces you can stick together with paper clips, string and duct tape..........and you can amuse yourself endlessly running JSGME!

I'm just about to do a complete, fresh install of SH5 (yet again) and do that stupid first tutorial "mission" (yet again) so I can get back to Kiel (yet again) and have a clean, in-base file to work with so that'll keep me suitably amused for an hour or so I'm sure

I completely understand the OPs frustration I posted a similar thread in the SH5 forum. Time is what is required as TDW says he is only one of many people who kindly use their own unpaid time to fix a particularly unfinished software product. I'm glad to hear that new releases of MO are waiting until various updates are complete - I think the piece by piece way the mods have developed up until now has somewhat inadvertently added to the frustration felt by myself and others. I am content to wait and watch for now I have uninstalled. Patience is the word, certainly. If it takes another 6 months, or a year to get SH5 to a state that it should have been in on release + much more than that It will be worth it it the end. I just resolved not to bother with it until then.

It seems almost all the stumbling blocks have been removed lately, people are able to add new ships, work on the crew, have really big waves (I'd love to see this on mine - but I WILL wait), rework campaign etc... so now the long process of adding all the ships has commenced but this will take time - there is no point of a mod adding 1 or 2 ships say, the mod should wait until there is a whole package of merchants, torpedo boats and warships, which is how it seems to be progressing atm. Keep it up folks, one day this game will be the finest subsim ever made. Until then I shall wait patiently.

Regards,
Sam.

I can't even get MO patched to 2 installed on a clean install now. As soon as I click on an interactive character "he" disappears. The dialogue box opens and you can progress, though. One minute out of the bunker on a new mission, the damn WATER disappears. Back to the drawing board

I have to say that for the same reason I have put SH5 aside for the time-being. I salute all of you guys involved in this momentous task of virtually rebuilding this sim and I cannot wait to once again be running deep and silent

I understand you. Nevertheless it was already said and I say it again: post your mod soup in the "List your Mod Loadout" and you will sure get help from the guys around here. You may also take a look at Soianm´s video tutorials, there´s a very helpfull one about how to install and configure MO (with patch) and TDW´s UIs.

In my experience, your computer specs are very important also. Couldn´t run MO and some other mods in the old rig.

the next version of MO is going to put a strain on some users computers due to the memory it will use (from the new campaign/ships). I forsee many people getting aggravated because their computer CTDs because of it

Default I have the hardware

I'm really pleased with all the mods so far. Totally admire all the modders of SH5. It's running smoothly. AND I still use SH4 (ducimus mods of course). What more can I ask, not being a modder myself. It is nice to know more stuff is coming sooner or later. It's like knowing I will be someday getting a new present. Until then. Thanks for all the great mods.

Having fun with SH4 and SH5 (although I like SH4 a little bit more: "being one of the good guys"). Subsim.com is a great forum, so I hope that one day you will be back to see all the work that has been done.

My hardware can handle it, hope I can handle it too.

kind regards,

Aniuk

Zedi, how is your campaign work coming along?

There are many of us eagerly waiting for TDW to release the next version of MO, I'm pretty sure.

Still very much to do. Ships, mines, changing and adding campaign objectives &new convoys and traffic based on historical accuracy.. and the list can continue. Not to mention the countess hours of testing... this is much even for a paid job. I think is possible to take another month till we get somewhere and thats because I/we dont wanna rush it. Is really hard to work on these things when there is no manual or knowhow about how to do stuff.
