You may want to download one of the interface mods in the SH5 modding forum. They generally make the interface more similar to older sub games', like Silent Hunter III's, which was much easier to understand than SH5 stock. Just a suggestion.

Don't mean to be mean or anything, but thats why its a simulation, for any future reference, don't purchase any game with the words sim, simulation, realism simulator, or anything of the sort in its title and you'll be fine.

WELCOME ABOARD!

As stated above, it isn't meant to be a simple game where you run around and shoot things. Even the earliest of this time of sim required patience and planning. That said, learning how it was actually done and learning some history along the way can be highly entertaining.

The biggest thing to remember is that everyone here started off not knowing how to do most of it, and those of us who are still here truly love it. And we are here to help folks like you to learn as well, because we want you to love it too. So try the game, take note of exactly what you're having trouble with, and you'll find a lot of friends who want nothing more than to help

Some people (like me) Like games that are complicated and require learning things to play it.

I get bored of games that require running around and shooting things. I like games that require me to think and plan. My wife says that they look like boring games. But its the action going on inside my head that I find fun.

Games like simulations I can play for years. Over and over again.

A PhD is hardly required.

the math used is pretty much grade school level time speed distance.

an ounce of patience, and a bit of poking around in the forums will help you find the answers you are looking for.

If you truly hate it, then don't play it. If you are just frusturated and would like some help in walking you through the process, you have but to ask in a mature and polite fashion.

Indeed, nevertheless I´ll cut him some slack.

Auto targeting for torpedoes: line the target ship in your periscope/UZO, just do not lock on to the target. Keep ship in you're 'sights' and fire away. It's clearly seen in the mini-map, when you have target locked and centered in periscope, torpedo trajectory on the mini-map runs trough the ships current position, when you press space to unlock target, trajectory automatically shifts to an intercept course.

It's important that you don't upgrade torpedoman's skills that affect torpedo speed. Game can't compensate for increased speed and you'll miss. If you want to, install this mod: Torpedo_Speed_Abilitie_Fix_for_TDC.

And as our Samurai Moderator already said, calm down. You may also want to read the sticky thread SH5 Popular Mods, Tools, Technical advice & Tactical tips, huge but worth a reading, from there I took the italics above .

My big Q is that if you hate it... Why play it? Let alone post about it

Problem with the topic like this is that.. is a huge slap on the face of those who work endless to improve it. Wish that all these guys would be automaticaly diverted to SH3. Took 10 years + to mod it, but hey.. finally its a finished game, nothing to complain.
