Default Elco - liftoff! We have a liftoff!

I was messing around in a Charlie II SSGN - and I launched a cruise missile at 2 armed trawlers and an Elco pursuing me.

The ships were in a line abreast formation, all steaming towards me with the 2 trawlers next to each other and the Elco on the outside.

My cruise missile struck home on the trawler in the middle - but the explosion was so powerful it destroyed all other boats in the formation. Then - this happened...

I just thought it was hilarious, haha

I also have a video of an Elco "dogfighting" with an ADCAP, I'll post it if you want

Why don't you post your image here?
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=108977

and the one you fire, I'm sure it wasn't a cruise missile, instead it was a ballistic missile, or a subroc, since i destroy a whole task force with 1 ballistic missile

SS*G*N means a Cruise Missile Submarine...

SS*B*N would have Ballistic Missiles..

Perhaps a small yield nuclear tipped cruise missile?

You're thinking of a nuclear warhead I think.. SH4 doesn't accurately model ballistic missile trajectories because:

1: You cannot launch munitions straight up.
2: The "Ballistic Missile" if launched wouldn't land on a convoy 2-3 miles out... it'd be hitting a static target from longer ranges.

If you think of a cruise missile; i.e.: it launches out of the tube, gets to the surface and then flies to the target, it is still not a ballistic missile because it does not have a "ballistic" trajectory to the target.

Think of artillery (ballistic missile) because it lobs the shell high up in the air and then comes crashing down. Whilst a cruise missile is like an anti-tank gun in that it shoots a low trajectory straight shot at the target.

I did the same thing to a Japanese torpedo boat, but using a standard Mark-14 torpedo. It was quite hilarious to watch, couldn't stop laughing (fiendishly) for quite some time. The funniest part wasn't getting it into the upper stratosphere but rather, all the popping, sparking and fizzling that broke my ribs.

Too bad a plane wasn't passing by so you could get a SS of it next to an astonished pilot in his cockpit.

Something similar to this occured to me, when I was running the Typhoon class mod. I nuked a Japanese harbor (forgot where) that had a H6K and 2 or 3 midget submarines. Needless to say, it was hilarious when I saw fireballs going very fast into the air XD
