Default Problem. Cannot delete career!

I am running SHIII with GWX Gold and SH3 Commander.
When i start Commander there is only one carreer (my current). When I launch SHIII via Commanfer another career (old) comes up. i am deleting it and on my next reload of the game its still there. It just wont go away for the past 10 days. It doesnt appear in Commander, i delete it from the game but it wont go. It was a nice carreer mind you but i died! and i want to get rid of it

Any ideas?

Go into C MyDocs and Careers and manually delete the file.

The only thing I can think of is that you forgot to click 'apply' in sh3commander. Then again, commander gives a warning when you promote someone and then click on another crew member.

Sorry to bump this old thread, but I'm having the same problem. I installed the new H.Sie realism mod and started a new career for my existing Kaleun. When I started this new career GWX3 crashed to desktop. I started a new career under a different name and it works. I went to the GWX folder in My Documents and deleted the folder for my original Kaleun. I then went back into GWX3 and created a new Kaleun with the same name as my original but the new career crashes. Is there somewhere else I need to delete my original Kaleun? I've noticed the renown earned for completing the Naval Academy was still there, but only for the original Kaleun.

Try performing a registry clean with crapcleaner or a similar programme.

I use cc and regvac....there is a free trial version here:

Did you actually shutdown SH3 before deleting? Or just alt-tab to windows and back into the running SH3 game?

You have to keep it in mind that H.Sie 's realism mod is actually a hex-edit of the executable. Meaning he's messing with the actual code that is running the game. A carreer name might be harmless or unrelated to his modifications, but you never know where bugs creep in.

I shut down the game after I deleted the career from the main menu. I then went to the Careers folder in documents and deleted the folder associated with that Kaleun. Recreating the profile resulted in a crash when I started a new career. Would cleaning the registry have an effect on the game itself? Would I have to delete my GWX folder and reinstall it? Thanks for the help so far.

You would have been wiser to shut the game down prior to deleting the career.

You can clean the registry without any negative effect on your installation occurring.

All you are doing is wiping away any data that is no longer needed and safeguards against your computer reporting faults to files that are no longer of use but may still be lying dormant.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. I deleted the career from the SH3/GWX Career menu, then went to the docs folder. I also tried it the other way (deleting the folder from the Careers folder in MyDocuments with the game not running) after the first method didn't work. I'll try cleaning the registry and report back.

Cleaned the registry with RegVac and the problem persists. I'm looking at an uninstall/registry clean/reinstall, I think.

Yeah, probably something else is forked up. If the carreer folder is deleted then SH3 shouldn't know about it anymore.

[EDIT] Just thought of something. You shouldn't have deleted the folder named 'careers', but the folder in it that carries the name of the Kaleun. Seems obvious perhaps, but maybe that caused the crash if it couldn find 'Careers'.

I didn't delete the Careers folder, only the Kaleun folder inside. I tried a few things like moving my GWX folder from an older hard drive but I'm still having the problem. I'll be deleting and reinstalling in the near future so hopefully that will correct the problem. It wouldn't be an issue if the name field allowed one more character. Then I could just create a new Kaleun with a middle initial. I tried that and came up one letter short.
