Default Am I rushing?

I've noticed that I have about 6 or 7 patrols since the beginning of the game. Each patrols that I've done have one week and a half or two from the start to the end. Am I rushing it?

Another thing is that when will I get the new version of the uboat, like V-IIB or V-IIC? I don't want to be stuck with V-IIA.

I know that some if not most patrols I end up doing in ShIII end up being at least 2 weeks to a month out at sea. I think my longest was about a 1 month and 20 day patrol so far.

Cant help you with the next question one there though since I cant run SH5

All depends on your settings and boat.

Obviously with SH5 we're limited to a Type VIIx. This doesn't allow you to do the lengthy patrol times of say a Type IX.

Now with realism settings, obviously unlimited fuel means.. well unlimited range, the only limiting factor being torpedoes.

However, in general, with a type VIIA restricted to the Celtic and North Sea, your general patrol times are going to be about 20 days out at sea depending on how many targets you run into as well.

Once you start reaching the Type VIIB/C you'll start ranging further out into the Atlantic and looking at 30-40 day patrols.

Also, to get promoted you just need to wait. Generally by the end of Total Germany you'll have a type VIIC.

Also, there is a mod that lets you begin your campaign in a Type VIIB (which is realistic since I don't believe VIIAs were used in combat..)

For me it depends on how successful or damaged my boat gets, if im out of torps and deck ammo (which happens less and less now since almost all merchants are armed mid 40..?) I'll RTB and end patrol, refitting seems to not count towards adding to any objectives, I don't know why.

A typical patrol is about 1 month, and I usually end up in the western approaches area south of Iceland, where I havent yet nailed down the convoy schedules yet.

If you do a few good patrols ~50k GRT, then you should get offered new commands.

I think this Kaleun went from the starter VIIA (u-21), to a VIIB (U-47, and yes I took her into Scapa!) by Jan 40, and I kept the VIIB for a while and turned down the first VIIC offered by accident, eventually I was offered another one around Aug 40 and now I'm floating about in U-69.

Eventually you will get a new VII either before or after the transition to France.
