submarine school question

This is the mission where you practice sinking ships with torpedoes. I have map contacts enabled, so I am chasing a small square on the Nav Map. The targets in the sub school mission display their course, and update it when the target changes direction. Let's say that a target shows a course of, say, 75 degrees. I plot the course. The target veers from the course gradually as observed on the Nav Map, but the target still shows 75 degrees on the map contact display. I assume if the contact shows 75 degrees, it is on that course. But it isn't according to the compass tool. What is going on? It has been making the submarine school course difficult to say the least.

Have not tried that mission. But if I am tracking a surface contact, contacts are on in options of course; and lets say I mark the map every 3min15sec. After about 5 marks I get a pretty good idea of target course. However if I am spotted I can except a reaction, no more straight course.

If you run OM, then you can expect changes in speed, sometimes, depends, if you get complacent and forget to update speed on the solution in the last minute or two prior to firing you can miss.

Thanks. I wasn't expecting a target in sub school to vary from the course displayed. I am going to try a regular mission, because they need me on the line even if I cannot graduate from submarine school.
