Default Large cut out of the budget??

Not really if you look at the whole picture.

http://www.wimp.com/budgetcuts

Neat way to get the idea of all those big numbers.

But it you happen to count on that "small" 100 Million, it seems rather significant. . It is very easy to cut 100m on something I don't care about. The problem is that probably a lot of other people do care and vice versa.

Regardless of how many pennies are on that table, cutting 100m is a good thing... we just can't stop there.

Both professionally and academically, my attention is usually focused overseas. With the teacher issue, I have started looking inward and started researching some of the state figures. Frankly I am shocked.

We have states with double digit BILLION dollar deficits. I remember when entire countries had deficits like that. But states? And not even some of the larger states.

Crikey folks, this is not a democrat/republican problem. This is an American problem. Until we can get past the stupid little letters, we can't really solve this problem. And solve it we must. This is not a problem that we can just "worry" about when it is convenient.

Illinois projects a shortfall in FY2012 of $15,000,000,000. Illinois! WTF! And that is NOT the total Illinois deficit . That is just the shortfall in FY2012! That $15,000,000,000 will be added to last years deficit! In FY2011 Illinois had a shortfall of $13,500,000,000

It must suck to be a governor these days, but each one of them asked for the job. They have to get state spending down. I don't expect them to reduce their deficit (I don't think that would be possible), but they have to stop getting further in to debt.

When will the State Executive and Legislative Branches get the balls to just stand up and declare "We ain't got the money!"?

When will the voters start electing the right person to the position instead of the party?

Then there's kali-fornia. If these guys go to the feds for a bail-out, I swear to god/allah/jimbuna, we should kick these guys out and sell them to China to pay off the debt. (except for Ducimus, we'll keep him.)

Its amazing how the republican spin machine can make budget cuts sound like a bad thing. Which is made even more ironic by the fact that the "red states" take more from social programs than they put in, and the "blue states" put in more to the social program pot than they take.

To be honest, Our taxes are too low for how many social programs there are. Ill say they are comically too low for the top earners in our nation, but they are also too low for the amount of spending we have across the board, which a lot seems to go to the DOD.

I'd love to see the DOD budget slashed. Our "national defense" has become something totally different, and seems to be more of a program to make sure we can throw our weight around around the globe. I think thats wrong. Defense should be just that, defense. I mean good lord, the JSF is asking for 11 BILLION dollars this year

I agree (and I am a member of the military industrial complex). Sometimes, the best defense may be just a good defense.

Not counting Iraq and AF, we have over 700 military bases overseas. That's a whole heaping helping of hegemony and expensive hegemony too.

And we should have listened to him.

When the number one industry of a country is the ability to invade countries and kill other nation's citizens, it tends to make other countries a bit nervous.

We spend six times more on our military than China does. But when China announces a new weapon system, we cry "international threat" and spend even more for "defense".

Wasn't one of the reasons the Soviet Union fell was because it choose to continue spending on more on military stuff when it really could not afford it?????

I can no longer sit back and allow Communist infiltration, Communist indoctrination, Communist subversion and the international Communist conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids.

Floridation. Nineteen hundred and forty-six. 1946, Frau Kaluen. How does that coincide with your post-war Commie conspiracy, huh? It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? A foreign substance is introduced into our precious bodily fluids without the knowledge of the individual. Certainly without any choice. That's the way your hard-core Commie works.

Heh.

Finally watched that all the way through in one go this weekend. Had seen most of it here and there but for some reason never really got all that into it.

It took getting to the part where the Prez has to call the Soviet leader on the phone to give him a 'heads up' before I was completely hooked.

"Well, what happened is... one of our base commanders... he went and did a silly thing..."

PURE GOLD.

I have to wonder how much of that bit was Peter Sellers ad-libbing, and how the rest of the cast managed not to ruin every take by busting out laughing.

Awesome! I propose 75% tax on school tuition.

50% Tax on union benefit packages.

Executive order: All public unions pay 50% of their own health benefits.

90% tax on all Hollywood salaries and profits.

75% tax rate on trial laywer profits.

what a constructive comment! I suggest something that is unpopular to you in good faith, and instead of a rational, well thought our counter argument...you post that. I sarcastic statement that is only designed to be ridiculous and inflammatory.
