Default GTX 580 Superclocked

Well not a good weekend, last November I purchased a GTX 470 card, good performance, they run hot and loud with SH4 and SH5. I fried it this past weekend attempting to install a quieter and more efficient cooling solution.

So in a fit of anger I broke my own rule and purchased an EVGA GTX 580 superclocked! WOW!

My CPU is a AMD Phenom II 955 BE, so I really thought that this would be the choke point to the performance of a top line video card solution.

OS is Win 7 Pro 64 bit with 8 gigs of ram.

So here are my results using FRAPS, this is SH4 UBM plus OM and OMEGU.

Were plying the Atlantic in a full blown storm, wind and rain.

On the bridge, 160 FPS

Inside the boat and at the map 240 FPS

The GTX 470 would render a nice 30 to 40 FPS in similar circumstances.

Conclusion: If you can afford it and are an Nvidia fanboi (I is one!) this thing is the answer to a bad marriage. Plus it runs much cooler and much quieter!

Happy Hunting!

That is some MINDBLOWING performance!

I have a stock GTX470 and I am happy with it, although it can get quite noisy as you said.

All I can say is happy superclocked-ultra-high-performance-at-160-FPS hunting!

the 470 and the 480 has been discontinued prior to the release of the 580 and 570. if your wondering about the diffrences in them go to www.nvidia.com and find them under products and compare the details, theres just more in clock speeds in the 500s then the 400s they both use the same new chipset. there isn't too much of a diffrence but the 500 series do make an impact. i wouldn't recomend buying the 580 superclocked based on their price. you come out way better (if you plan to spend it) buying two 570s which will run you about $200 more but will out-perform a single 580 superclocked or not. but in anycase if your mother board isn't compatible with sli then go with what you want in the end. 500 series cards are excellent cards and most of the time these are the performance jumps you will see with these cards. i recently had 3 9800 gtx+ 512s in 3-way and didn't even come close to the performance i get with two 570s and way quieter and cooler. so if any of are thinking of buying them. they are worth it.

The 400 (Fermi 100) series was not a great success; the Fermi 110 is a completely different story.

Another thing to keep in mind and I have mixed feelings on this one. I purchased my card from Amazon and it comes with a three year warranty. If you purchase direct from EVGA you get a lifetime warranty. Second, to qualify for their EVGA Step Up program you have to get the card either direct from them or purchase additional product insurance through them at the time you register your product and register for the Step Up program.

It just an FYI for those that are EVGA fanbois (I am one), there are other vendors that also have good 500 series cards.

Never has the ocean in SH4 flowed this smoothly! Oh and I run this at 1920 by 1080 on a 23" LCD.
