Default Drrrrrrumbeat!

Hey there

Got a quick question about operation drumbeat. I know it is scripted in there somewhere, but in the mission editor I can't really find it. According to wikipedia it starts in january 1942, but I have more faith in the knowledge of you guys (and girls) here. So what day does it start exactly? Which American harbors where attacked in that operation?
I guess what I want to find out is, how do I get in on the action?? Thanks.
(or if you know an exact date for the start of the operation in SH3 GWX, maybe then I can look it up in the mission editor)

*edit* I just came across the 'sh3Gen' mod. Will it point me in the right direction or even give me orders when Drumbeat starts?

Thanks!

Default Some info

Drumbeat, for real, was not an attack on harbors. It was an attack on the shipping running along the US coast. The initial boats were stationed to begin with off ports, like New York, but did not enter them.

Good luck with yours.

America was all but in name at war with Germany by Oct41 by extended their neutral zone. Just get stuck in now as I do against any Warships and Tankers that you see, but if you must do it by the book, Hitler declares war on America December 11th 1941 and Drumbeat started January 13th 1942

Drumbeat is all those huge amounts of ships and convoys all over the American coast, but, as raymond6751 pointed out, mainly the massive number around New York.

None.

Take a Type IX boat, and there's a chance you will actually be assigned there. Or use SH3 Commander and assign yourself to the proper patrol grid.

Wiki's, and Steed's, numbers are correct.

SH3 Gen looks at the current map and tells you what assets are where. You can set it to tell you everything, which is a simple cheat, or you can set it to give you some info when you ask, and for some of that to be wrong. Lots of fun.

I thought you could play drumbeat as a single player mission

I think there is one, but where is the fun in Single Missions?

Drumbeat would be weird as a single mission IMO, as it was basically the uboatwaffe's operations off the American coast over a 6-8 month period before they could really get convoying going. It wasn't just a single scenario, but more of a mini-campaign of it's own.

I read up on Drumbeat a while back and the presence of U-Boats off the US coast was such an unexpected turn of events they were completely caught off guard. There are many eyewitness reports of people on the coast of America seeing ships getting hit by U-Boats, which means in the opening days and weeks, they operated very close to land with relative impunity.

I've yet to take part in Drumbeat as this is only my second IX career compared to 4 VII and 2 Type II, the first one ended west of Gibraltar in September 1940 after I got truly massacred by a convoy's escorts. I escaped, but due to Longer repair times mod and the sheer amount of damage I eventually abandoned the boat west of Portugal due to overwhelming flooding 2 days later. I should have headed to the milkcow NW of Gibraltar but I underestimated the extent of the damage and overestimated my crew's ability to fix it...

I'm currently celebrating New Year 1941 in port so yeh, America here I come soon!!

There is indeed a single mission in GWX entitled 'Operation Drumbeat' but I'd recommend you try another single mission in that area also, the one I created entitled 'Early Christmas'.

After those two I'd seriously recommend you start a career in the area.

Exactly I only play career, much more immersive than single missions.
I don't know how I came up with U-boats attacking US harbors
But anyway, I'm using SH3gen to give me some info, and some of it wrong. Really cool mod if you use it like that!
I already have a IX so I'm hoping they'll assign me to the operation. I wouldn't really like to have to assign myself to a grid.. Takes away from the realism a bit. So I'll have to keep my fingers crossed..
Thanks for the info!
