From The lads at subsim!?

My wife is planning a family reunion.

she does not want to use facebook as an outlet mainly for the reason that not everyone has facebook.

so that she might give the whole family equal access - i was wondering? is there is any service or web site that will allow some sort of temporary and free or very cheap meeting space for everyone to sort of log in, discuss the upcoming reunion, give a yes or no as to whether or not they are attending and further details of the event can be posted as details begin to iron themselves out.

Or perhaps there is some way i can quickly and easily make a web site for the reunion details where people can check in and get the latest information?

If you have a google account then you've got all the tools you need. Google Apps/Sites lets you create and share a site with anyone on the planet.

You can create a poll or even a shared calendar if you have multiple events over a period of time, but I'd say that won't be the case here. You also don't need to know how to write HTML either.

I am no big fan of google, so I can't tell much about google apps, however I found Google Wave to be usefull for delayed as well as for real-time communication. It provides all the features that Rivet needs. I used it successfully in a programming project last year. Unfortunately doesn't google support it anymore, but you still can access and use it.
It's a no-brainer to use, takes max 5 minutes to learn it and to create a wave & invite others.
They do need an google account however, but that's also matter of 2 minutes. I prefer to use a throwaway email address for a google account...

I've used them in the past and they worked out good.
