(REAL LIFE TOPIC) Crew Facilites

I am reading bout the XXI and XXIII type u-boats after jimbuna mentioned the type 3.
they had better crew facilities than the other types of boat, and it has me wondering - as it's winter and it's been a real cold one this year, I know how cold the sea is, did the u-boats have any sort of insulation on-board and were they heated?

I know/acknowledge it must have been quite hot in the engine rooms but wonder if any of this heat was tranferable to the rest of the vessel?
