Just use the editor and the scripted layer.

I don't think they spawn in port, then just sail off. But as I never harbor raid, perhaps someone else can answer that.
If you must tangle with a BB and escorts, there's no better learning curve than 2nd Battle of Narvik, 13 April 1940.

Some are scripted to spawn in port and others aren't, depending on space available.
One more point....they won't spawn at all if your within rendering range of them. |

If you're feeling really brave, the HMS Nelson is at anchor in Gibraltar, along with 2 Southampton Class in early October 1940 (can't remember the exact date, but within the first 2 weeks of Oct). I remember cos me and the rest of my crew died a slow death on the bottom as flooding consumed us after a pesky Elco spotted us during an early hours surface infiltration. Those guns from the Nelson certainly caused a few holes that no amount of fingers could plug....
![]() It's over on the far eastern side of the bay. (GWX).

If you're using GWX all the major engagements that are scripted into the game are in the manual.

I don't know if this is along the same lines, but, if you will cruise within about 100 nm of BB 99 convoys spawn about once every three says.
If you cruise within about 100 nm of BB 95, convoys and Task Forces spawn there. And, every once in a great while, if your lucky, you'll catch a task force of 5 DD's and a Bogue Escort Carrier in Grid square AM 35. |

There's a random task force that sets out from around Liverpool, loops northwest to Loch Ewe, east to Scapa Flow, and then down the east coast of the British Isles. I've never successfully intercepted it... is it even worth it? I don't know what it's called in the editor.
Also, I've noticed that the USS Ranger, Yorktown and Enterprise are mentioned by name in task forces... but they're listed as Essex class carriers.

From early 1940 until the end of the year, if you spend time around the Rockall Banks, some convoys will have a battleship escort.
There are also various task forces scripted into the game that traverse the atlantic and others will be heading to Scapa Flow or Loch Ewe. The Norwegian campaign has various groups containing capital ships and the Bismarck chase has capital ships converging around grid square BE53 if I remember correctly. The Pedestal convoy has several heavy ships in it and can be found in August 1942. Hope this helps. |
