Default Fog - What the

Chasing down a sonar contact and I surface for a high speed intercept in the fog. I'm in pursuit for almost an hour and have no visual. Next thing I know the whole task force lights up the radio with sightings of me. What the? How is it that they can see me through the fog yet I can't see them?

I beleave the radio messages that TDW added are for immerision. They do not mean you have been spotted. It's just a random chance to produce message whether you've been spotted or not.

Hello,
which year ? From 1943 on .. lots of radar installed even on older ships, and lots of "sightings"

But they will not exactly know what that blip is. In reality, running surfaced at the same speed and course as a convoy, they probably would not even find you by radar.

And radar does not work under 1000 meters, so you are pretty secure in fog. And - Flower class corvettes and sloops with their 15-16 knots are slower than you, so you can run away from those.

When i ended the Gibraltar single mission i ran surfaced through the fog with 18 knots, zig-zagging past destroyers which might have seen me for 5 seconds, until i was gone again in the fog. If this hiding works in SH5 ... good !

Greetings,
Catfish

You are absolutely right. I was able to sneak up and take several of them down using the fog to my advantage. The cool thing is when I did get in there with them where they could see me the radio messages lit up again. This time for real. This gave a sense of tension between myself and a living breathing enemy. This is the first time I felt this way in the SH series.
