Default How the hell can Facebook be worth $50 billion

I just don't get it. Maybe I am thick but something that makes nothing, produces nothing, just a collection of people, some in my opinion extremely sad posting details of their life. Is it worth that due to advertising alone? That is the only way I can see it makes money is from advertising revenues.

Oh yeah, that reminds me, friend me

Who can say what the value of FB is? There are so many revenue stream possibilites; advertising, potential premium membership fees, application and game fees.... If I had a website with 500 million members and growing, one that was the new cornerstone of the web, I guess I would be happy. Let's see... 500 million members times a penny each day... would be....

$ 1,825,000,000.00

Yeah, that would be worth $50 billion, easy.

I guess I'm just old fashioned Neal....

Fair play the guy's smart but to be of real value you need to create something tangible.....

I'll go back to my cave now...

Don't worry Xabba, I'm decidedly anti-Facebook. I am actually rather proud of the fact that I do not have an account.

EDIT: I don't begrudge anyone who does have an account, though. My wife has one, and she likes it very much.

FB accounts are OK - once the novelty wears off, the privacy issues settle down, and those pesky restraining orders are lifted...

In honesty, I was very grateful to have access to so many people who were involved in my mother's life after I went off on my own in '90. I went off on my way, and tended to not look back - and I've discovered that I missed a neat person. She made life better for a lot of people, and I never would have known that were it not for access to those people via FB.

I've been able to reconnect with old friends, make a few new ones, all without drama. There can be actual adults on FB.

I have about as much interest in them as I have in wrestling a dozen crocodiles, none at all.

Oh, I'd pay to watch you wrestle a dozen crocodiles. Does that constitute interest?

Hmm... y'know, I'm sure that somewhere, someone in Hollywood is finding a way to make a fortune with this concept.

It's worth $50 Billion because of all the information that can be legally harvested from the site for advertisers! Not to metion a new way to screen new employees
