Default Couple of questions re: sound and visuals

Two questions if I may.

Firstly, I read or heard somewhere that one of the main reasons for making night attacks from the surface was that the attack scope didn't admit much light, and was almost unusuable in the dark.
In SH3 this is not a big problem as the nights aren't usually very dark. Would it be possible to add a filter/tint to the attack scope (kind of like sunglasses) that would make the nights much darker when seen through the scope?
I'm guessing the scope visuals are handled by a texture somewhere, and that adding a filter would be as easy as editing in Photoshop or GIMP?

Secondly, how difficult would it be to propogate exterior environment sounds (thunder, rain) to the interior of the boat while surfaced? I don't recall ever hearing external sounds when inside the boat, but maybe my memory is faulty here.

I think something has been done it that area, but I can't remember exactly what. Somebody will sort it out.

I here wind sounds inside during storms, but I think that's considered a bug, and it only happens sometimes. I'm not sure how much they could here inside. I don't remember hearing outside sounds on my destroyer, but I do recall listening to the water flow along the hull while lying in my rack at night.

I agree. I dont ever recall hearing storms or rain down in the boats ive worked on except maybe the wheelhouses. you might hear the rain if you were surfaced and in the conning tower, but I dought hearing it in the belly of the boat itself. thats some preety thick steel they used for hulls not including the space in between the ballast and all plus deisel tanks etc. now hail on the other hand can be heard and maybe some thunder if loud enough. dont know of anymods like salier steve said it might strike a nerve with someone else though.

"Firstly, I read or heard somewhere that one of the main reasons for making night attacks from the surface was that the attack scope didn't admit much light, and was almost unusuable in the dark."

Right this is why I like using Hitman's GUI for NYGM (don't know if available for other mods?) which gives a good feeling of the differences between UZO, attack scope and observation scope optics. Furthermore it features a very useful large Wizzwheel for calculation of courses and AOBs.
