Default Long time no see

Hi all. Been away for a while. I got rid of my windows machine and haven't played SH3 for quite some time now. I'm a hardcore linux user since Slackware 3.4 beta and wasn't about to pick up a new copy of windows either.
I was planning to follow the cumbersome instructions to get the game working under wine (fullscreen) in the future. But I'm not a real fan of custom patches and rebuilding wine for one single game. Even if it's SH3... so I was going to let it depend on the future. That was as fas as I got.

But suddenly last week I was longing back to the sea in SH3. It was a strange feeling that I've never felt for a game before. I was realy urging back to that ol' Type II, the North Sea and the thrill of depthcharges, plotting and shooting torpedos. Listening to the waves while roaming the seas and the disel engine. The endless waiting... you know what I mean. This game is pure magic and addictive.
The problem is that SH3 can't run in fullscreen under wine, If you don't mess around and changing its sources. I realy don't want to run the game in windowed mode. So yesterday I dusted off my old cracking knowledge, which hasn't been used in ages. Picked up a disassembler, hexeditor and manipulated the exe file not to ask for the ancient 50Hz refresh rate (which is the problem). Bam! I'm hooked again... I hope the game runs smooth, haven't have time to test it fully yet. Lunch time at work and the time is moving very slow.
I have a feeling there might be some late evenings this week.

I'll write a patcher for all you linux users out there. Keep your eyes open for the release.

Over and out...

That patch will be surely welcome

Not that I had any problems playing fullscreen under wine, though.

It depends on the graphicscard, if it can cope with the hardcoded 1024x768-50Hz resolution. Mine can't, since the lowest refresh rate at 1024x768 is 57Hz, and wine bails out. I had to emulate a windowed desktop in wine to get it kicking. That's crap...

Maybe a high resolution mod can fix that too. I don't know... I have a vague feeling that I tested that some year ago, though.

Welcome back Mate.

Have you looked at Ubantu Ultimate Edition?
An old friend of mine is 'TheeMahn'
He lives about 9 miles from me.

I convinced him to drop Visual Basic and learn C++ YEARS ago.
