Default meanwhilte over in SH5

in the main SH% forum, the realistic screenshot thread, our Gunfighter and one Otto are in a "battle of the bands" as to who can create the finest screenshot. Check it out. There are some great shots! Some are terrific.

I always admired the work of both, missed them when they left SH4. About the only time I go there is to look at their work.

Tei was also really good and created some of the best work ever done. I think he even sells his.

Great work there and a great lesson for all that most will ignore or forget. Eye candy alone will never make a great simulation. At inappropriate levels it actually becomes the enemy of great simulation. With enough eye candy porn it may even make simulation unnecessary at all to sell a game. At that level we all lose. The game that is heaven to look at becomes hell to play.

But it doesn't matter. They already lured your money with the false glimpse at heaven. Whether that money comes from genuine achievement in producing a product simulation junkies want or from tricking them by showing pretty pictures is of no consequence to them. Their only definition of success is measured in terms of money. They don't realize that legitimate profit comes from real success in meeting the needs and wants of their valuable customers.

Maybe I'm being too generous. Perhaps they know but merely chose to ignore the real meaning of success. Perhaps they really do equate selling a counterfeit with selling a Van Gogh if they end up with the same amount of cash.

putting a critique of SH5 aside for a brief moment, that was one hell of a screen shot, wasn't it? If we had SH5 graphics in SH4, that would be something.

Okay, time's up. back to bashing SH5!

Yup, merely by marrying the great graphics of SH5 with the game engine of SH4 with no improvements at all would have been a home run. Fixing some of the SH4 issues besides would have been a grand slam home run. Instead they foul tipped to the catcher, missing the ball almost entirely. The catcher didn't even have to move his glove.

WOW! That screenshot is amazing. Is that an actual untouched in game shot with mods, or was there some photoshopping involved? It's easy to see how you could be lulled into that eyecandy heaven. If SH4 could incorporate those graphics, I'd throw my other games in the garbage

I honestly don't see much of a difference between Silent Hunter 4 and Silent Hunter 5 in terms of the visuals. Does the "5" at the end of the name add that somehow or is there something else that I'm not getting?

What a perfect analogy, hits the nail on the head!

It's a pity the game play doesn't match the graphics.
