Default Data Notepad Question

Hi,
I'm only just getting my sea legs so please bear with me!

I've been reading the tutorial for manual targeting. I'm managing to navigate not too badly, and am able to get close enough to some merchants without being detected.

My problem is at the early stage of targeting. I can ID the ship via the data notepad but my problem starts when trying to determine the range and inputting the mast data etc! I've ensured the check boxes are ticked on both the data notepad and the ships id page, locked the target and aligned the arrow on the waterline.

I can hover the mouse over "ship" and it gets the ID, when hovering over "range, aob or speed" they remain blacked out.

However, no matter what I click on I can't get any mast data nor aob info etc!

Am I supposed to flick a manual targeting button somewhere that will enable the relevant functions?

Also - what is the difference between the green and yellow arrows when locking onto the contacts through the scope?

Thanks for any help!

I think the green/yellow/orange/red triangles in the scope indicate how "straight" a shot you will have if you fire from your current position relative to the target's position and course. Green would be the "straightest" shot, and red the most problematic (in theory) since the torpedo's course would involve a relatively severe turn in its course in order to hit the selected target.

I always thought the triangles disappeared from the game if you opted for manual targeting, but I'm not sure.

When you load the game and your current career, somewhere in the process of loading up that career you'll see something along the bottom of one of the screens that says "Change Realism" or "Realism Options"... anyway, look for "Realism" and click it when you see it. You should get a screen where you can select or deselect different options that affect realism in the game, manual targeting is one of them. I think you have to select "No targeting assistance" or something like that.

I haven't tried manual targeting so I don't know what happens to the notepad functions when you do, but if you don't have the game set up for manual targeting instead of assisted targeting it prolly affects that somehow.

Thanks for the quick reply frau kaleun!

I'll check my switches and settings!

EDIT: Again...thanks for the heads up, I've just been into the game and as you rightly say you need to check the "manual" plotting box on the realism menu! (However, it's probably not the last of my newb type questions!!).
