Default Project Azorian

Just watching Azorian: The raising of K-129 on SBS right now. Very interesting story about the 1974 project to bring a Soviet ballistic missle submarine to the surface from 5700m down.

I've just updated my knowledge base on the subject via Google and it sounds quite interesting but I don't have Quick Player installed.

The doco was well worth a watch with interviews of both US and Soviet protagonists in the story.

I missed the second half of the program lastnight ,but I saw the first part last week ,I liked the way it came around though - The Russians "She's too deep and no ones got the technology grab anything off her anyway" and The American"Ok ,we don't have the technology to get any parts off her so lets just invent it and grab the whole submarine"
Just the sheer technical hurdles that needed to be overcome to raise her were stunning -the pipe that was attached to the grabber had to be able to lift 8000 Tons! ,2k for the K129 ,2k for the grabber and 4k for the lifting pipe! and do it in 16500 feet of water

That is something to see.
