Default Time Zones

Happy Thanksgiving guys!I have an embarrasing question to ask because I seem to be brain dead at the moment. I'm off the coast of Japan (about 40nm SSE of the entrance of Tokyo Bay). My game clock and calander say May 14, 1943 10:00 AM. I know the clock is giving me my base time, which is Midway Isl. What time is it off the coast of Japan, and what day. The reason I ask is because a convoy was supposed to be in this location midday on the 15th. Thanks, and excuse my stupidity. Enjoy your holiday!

Tokyo is five time zones west of Honolulu, and across the International Date Line, so if it's 10:00 on the 14th at Pearl Harbor it's 05:00 on the 15th in Tokyo. I believe the extended section of the time zone around Hawaii includes Midway, so officially Midway time is the same as Pearl.

It's funny - in SH3 the time was always GMT, not base time. Holding the cursor over the time would give you the local time and date. In SH4 this is broken.

Probably not, or I'd be making a big deal out of the fix.

Thanks for that Steve. The convoy is due by midday. I should be right on time.

Just a small update: Contact made! Right on time. Overcast skies, moderate rain. Warship and Merchant propeller noises heard. Radar shows range about 12,000 and closeing.

OK, just thought I'd post the results so far to make some interesting reading. Initial contact was made, cloudy, foggy, rainy, basicly horrible conditions. Strictly used radar to obtain convoy's track and speed. Ships on scope appeared in single line. Lead ship, followed by three trailing ships. Raced ahead to intercept with no fear of being spotted. Visibility about 700yds.

At a position just ahead of the lead ship, which was assumed the escort, I turned 90 degrees to the target track. Watching the radar, I could see this was going to be a text book intercept. Reduceing speed, I closed. Suddenly out of the gloom comes the escort. Being at maximum visible range, he passes without seeing me. I decide to dive to periscope depth, and attempt a DO attack since due to the reduced visibility, there would be no time to use the Stadimeter and obtain correct target ID.

The lead target made it's way out of the fog. It was a Large Modern Composit freighter. As the points of interest passed the wire, I fired my fish. A total of 4 fish were now on their way, at fairly close range. Torpedo #1 DUD! Torpedo #2 DUD! Numbers three and four thankfully detonated just behind the stack and aft crane. After some time, she began to settle by the stern, before finally going down.

At the present time, I am resurfaced and chaseing down the remaining ships. Night is falling, and no sign of improved weather. This should be fun.
