Default You never know who you're going to bump into

Went to the local book store to have a cup of coffee and get a little studying done. I went to leave - and as I was walking out of the barely populated little book store... Oliver North was walking in.

Apparently he was stopping in for a quick book signing, so I did an about face and picked up his book about Americas special forces heroes.

Within minutes the house was packed and he was signing my copy.

You just never know who you're going to bump into out there.

I was walking my freshman year of college around my campus, and I said "hi" to a woman in late middle age who was walking her dog. Two weeks later, I find out Ursula LeGuin is giving a speech on campus, and I go and I'm sure you can guess the rest.

(Turns out she lived right off campus)

So after bumping into Ollie North, were you ever able to get the stench out of your clothes?

Who was it made the quote about "usual suspects" just a few days ago? Besides, isn't he the Ollie North who was found Not Guilty?

I think you guys hate him just because he foxed your witch hunt.

Absolutely not! He was found guilty of committing three felonies (down from an original 7).

His guilt findings were vacated because he had immunity due to his Congressional Testimony. A vacated finding removes the court proceedings as if the trial never existed. So in no way can it be said that he was found Not Guilty. Legally he has not been tried yet (and never will stand trial for his crimes).

Yes indeed. He told stories to a Congressional delegation, and agreed to testify if they gave him immunity. He then went before Congress and told them he had lied to the delegation. They tried him for that, among other things, even though they had granted the immunity in the first place.

It was a witch-hunt to get Reagan, and North foxed them good. They screwed up, and have been whining about "getting off on a technicality" ever since.

Early 09 I bumped into Beyonce in Greensboro NC. She stopped by a local mall and came through the basement mall office we were remodeling. I think she had a concert that night at the nearby coliseum. She had another rapper with her, can't recall his name. I didn't even know who she was. I got about 4ft from her as she leaned on the wall seemingly bored. I was then pushed back by her BG's and she went on. They caught one of my workers taking pictures with his phone and made mall security delete the pictures.

She was rather hot, even though I had no clue who she was.

Guys, I think you're missing the point of his story; it is not 'Oliver North is a super duper guy', rather 'Holy crap I saw Oliver North today'. I had a similar experience a few years back with Bill Clinton (and his secret service detail) at the Constitution Center in Philadelphia. I am not, nor was I ever, a Clinton supporter, but I still thought 'Holy crap, that's Bill Clinton'.

Correct

Also, while i dont know the man from Adam... i do like his "War Stories" Series, furthermore, his book speaks very highly of the American Servicemen which i think tells some very moving stories of admirable and often unsung heroes.

As much as i dislike Obama... i would still have that celebrity wow factor if his motorcade stopped in front of my house and he knocked on my door asking to use my restroom to take a presidential piss.

i think the appropriate response to a thread such as this one would be "seems like an experience you can tell people about" or "neat" or "not that i like Ollie North but hey... whatever"

instead certain people piss and moan like writhing whores about the Marine who was smart enough to outsmart congress.

which may be the ONE time they were on the receiving end of a good screwing.

I would not allow Obama in my house and would honestly ignore him but his "random" stops are not so random, they make sure things go well, they learned from the Joe the (idiot) Plummer guy during the campaign. One of Obama's few honest moments though.

Anyway, pretty cool you saw Ollie North

makes two of us... the less he knows about the things behind my front door the better.

still, later that day around a nice fire, a glass of amaretto and a good cigar with my friends i would say

"You guys wont believe who knocked on my door doing the potty dance!"

of course the conversation would end with:

"I sent him two houses down to the yard with all the liberal political signs in the yard.... but still, you never know who you're gonna bump into."

they hurried people along pretty fast.

The conversation went like this

Me: "How are you today sir?"

Ollie: "Great how about yourself?"

Me: "Just fine."

Ollie: "I really appreciate you guys coming out today. I mean it, thanks a lot."

Me: "Thank you for your service. have a nice day"

whole conversation took about 10 seconds... so it wasnt like a personal BS session with Oliver North or anything.

Edit:

Now when i bumped into "W" in the middle of the night at a small airport... that was different, he was actually pretty cool and had a cute little puppy dog too
