Need Technical Help

I am new to the forum. I have just started learning to play Silent Hunter 2 in what spare time I have, but my question has nothing to do with the game. My interest in submarines goes back to the age of 12 particularly U-boats. I am a writer, published and produced mostly historical fiction. My present project is a novel about the sinking of the Lusitania from a variety of viewpoints. I have used many sources for research, but I have a technical question for all the experts on the forum. How is a misfired torpedo repaired - assuming it can be - on a WWI U-boat? I am a detail oriented person and I always make sure my stories are historically and technically correct.
