Default High resolution and SH5

"Hi Im new here" ....i was told to start such a thread after registering, so there you-go!

..I have a couple of quick technical questions about SH5.

I've been playing Sims ,since sims began in the 80's and have followed the SH series since SH3 (wonderfull game), decided to introduce my first mod with SH4, it was one of the super mods, and i was more than a little impressed with the overhaul!!

Prefering the Atlantic to the Pacific, and eagely awaiting the full U-boat open to walk around, I purchased SH5 apon release, and before even unrapping it, i shelved it while i ripped apart my study/PC room....after hearing about its poor condition at release, i've been i no great hurry to un-rap.

I've just (finally) completed my study and am ready to move my PC in...and with the sea of mods now available, im ready to take the plunge (puns intended).

But just before i do, im treating myself to an upgrade of both G-card and monitor, and here lie'th the questions......

I was considering buying a 24" IPS monitor 1920x1200, which would be nice. But im having trouble justifying buying it over my very decent 20" monitor, due to the fact its not that big an increase in size.

Thats when i discovered how good a near U-boat size Dell 27" (U2711) would look, native res 2560x1440. My concern is, it has a somewhat unusal resolution and a very high price tag approx £800.

I would hate to purchase one only to find SH5 does not support this resolution, any help here?

Also, with G-cards in mind, can anyone confirm that SLI or Crossfire does actually work with SH5, as im considering this a possibility, though i've never used more than one card previously.

Thanks in advance for any reply's, and might i add what a magnificent site this is.....Silent hunters only hope.

Hi there.

I play - or used to until I gave up on this POS game - on a 27" Dell myself, although it's an older model with a max res of 1920x1200. Performance was fairly good (>25 fps at all times) at that res and with all options maxed out, running on a Win7/64 box (i7 920 oc'ed to 4.0ghz, 12gb RAM, and a pair of 260GTX cards).

Unfortunately, the second card didn't help much as I was never able to get SH5 running in SLI. I posted in several places around the net looking for a working SH5 SLI profile or suggestions for creating same myself (I am fairly proficient at this), but no joy.

Good luck.

JD

EDIT: Oh man! What the frak is that? <-----------<<<

Thanks, After much deliberation, im leaning towards a 24" monitor again, and perhaps a single ATI 6950 (when they arrive next month).....safer bet and far less cost!!!
