Ridley Scott goes 3D - with The Forever War!

Since I heared first of that he bought the rights for Haldeman's novel, it has been two years, I think, or even three, I am not sure, and I already wondered what happened to it. I also worried about Scott's growing age...

Doing some Goggle-research on it, I found some new info - it seems preparatory work already is under way - finally!

Inspired by Cameron's techncial approach on Avatar, the movie will be in 3D. Not that I personally give much for it, I am no 3D junkie, but a whole lot of people should go ballistic over this, I could imagine.

And this is said to be the first piece of concept art that became known in public.

He also got an absolute top name onboard for adapting the screenplay, David Peoples! I just say: "Unforgiven", "Blade Runner", "Twelve Monkeys".

I feel it in my bones, this one's gonna become a truly great one! And maybe the last movie Scott is doing. He does not hide his great admiration for the novel, and that he has hunted for the rights for over 20 years. It would be the worthy ending of a great director's career, with his first movie ever being a Science Fiction, and his last one as well - talking of closing circles... Scott is 73. In an interview for additional material in one of the film boxes I have by him, he said that he does not want to make movies until the very end of his life, but want to reserve his final years for private life and painting.

Didn't he just make one of these? Or is this the sequel? Or am I thinking of someone else?

Ridley Scott is awesome. I read in one interview about Alien Prequel, he said something like: Cameron raised the par with Avatar, I aim to go over that."

Sir Scott is the kind that we need to save movies, the hell what producers say, give me what I want and I make you millions!

Scott wants to be the best, someone does something better than him, he goes and does it better than the last guy.

It's these guys like R.S. we need, they don't make movie for money, but because they love it.

Well, his record is exceptionell and he surely is one of the greatest in his branch, but his record is not flawless. He made some of the best movies I know - but also some of the worst I have ever seen. But all in all, he shines so much brighter than most other filmmakers.

I admit, although I will get spanked for that, beside the big blockbusters Blade Runner, Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven (all director's cuts), Black Hawk Down, I liked his infamous "Legend" quite much, due to the beauty in the scenery and the stunning visuals - it was as if my childhood imgination of what a faery tale world and -forest needs to look like, had been adapted by him on a 1:1 basis. His clam, wonderfully relaxed "A good year" I also like, and "Duel".

Some other films were okay, even good, but hardly worth an entry in the glory books of film history. Which is okay, you cannot always reinvent the wheel.

GI Jane, and Hanibal, on the other hand, are amongst the worst crap I have ever seen. Terrible.

Robin hood, yes. Apparently it flopped. I still haven't seen it. Waiting for a cheap second hand deal on the DVD. Instinct tells me that I do not miss too much.

Actually Blade Runner bombed at the box office. Although it is considered one of the best movies ever made.

EDIT: Sky ever watch Numb3rs? Ridley and Tony Scott produced it. I thought it was a fantastic series.

Yes I know it, but somehow it does not get me on board. Almost all modern series don't get me on board these days. "House" being an exception. I own several older series on DVD, though. I have started to go back in time and just got third season of "Northern Exposure" (English), as well as "All Creatures Big and Small" (German) - is that even known in the US?

I understand, there are only three TV shows I watch regularly anymore; Dr. Who, NCIS, and Castle. I did watch House but it got too repetitive for my tastes.

I remember seeing Northern Exposure when I was younger, and I recall All Creatures Great and Small on PBS a long time ago.

Yeah I saw it - it was really impressive to look at but it took itself too seriously IMO, like he was going for another Gladiator

Great music though.
