Default Well, this sucks.

TMO 2.0 RSRD Second Patrol of USS Skate(Balao) March 1944.First Patrol from Jan 1944-Feb 1944 in the Truk-Japan shipping lanes netted five large ships down and a Navy Cross upon return.

Second patrol , assigned to recon Mariana Islands in support of upcoming operations. While closing the islands to prepare for submerged approach and dawn photo shoot, radar made contact with a convoy approaching Saipan, most likely from Truk.I decided a night surface attack and then a high speed run to photo Guam, then Saipan last since area would be stirred up.Moved in a perfectly executed night surface attack setup, moonlight and phosporesence was more than wouldve liked but a safe shoot from 3000-3500 yards for most part, esp since convoy was four ships(two mid sized merchants and two small) with one Type A/B coastal defense vessel.I fired two Mark 14s's each for the two medium and two to the closest small merchant at 3400 yards.Due to heavy seas, I did not see a Mark 14(number 2 fired) had made a circle run, this forced me to go ahead emergency and order port full rudder, unfortunately the torpedo nailed my sub aft in a violent explosion, which alerted the targets and their escort, which began a dash towards me firing its deck gun.

My stern quickly filled with water and ship began to take an angle, we had 90 percent hull damage, diesels destroyed, aft batteries destroyed, multiple crew KIA, fuel leaking.as went down tried to level ship outand managed to do so somewhat. The escort was closing in according to sonar but no pinging. As the escort neared, we had splashes, depth charges! Seconds later while at 120 feet nad still sinking...violent close explosions, hull failure, water flooding in, it was all over.

This sucks! I had a good career going here but it happens.

Whats up with no pinging from the Type A/B's no active sonar in March 1944??

Bad times. I had pretty much the same scenario. I didnt see mine at and went off close to the stern. Took off my rudder. All I could do was travel straight for a day or too (more than can be said for that damn torpedo) and beach her.

War, good god yo.....

If they had actives, they could still use passives.

That said, there are some groups in RSRDC with errors in CFG dates. All such errors make them have earlier cfgdate values (and hence they are less, not more dangerous). It's possible they have no actives below some date.

Hehe, I just pulled into port with 98% damage. For two days I fought the Java Invasion Force in a storm. Took out 3 with the DG. This group has about 60 ships and twice I ran into a Nagaru close enough to take damage, but I blew one ship up with torps at 500 yards, but was going flank towards it and when it blew I went from about 20% to 98%. Shot 4 sterns on the way out and got 3 sep hits and 3 sinkings and left..course can't miss at this group.

Got back to Sura on 26th and got demoted to a Porpoise, took it , but strange I was back out on the 28th...That was rather fast, unless it has to do with the base getting ready to fall in a few days.

Course I'll go back after the group since it's close.

What the...? Of the dozens of boat changes I've had foisted upon me, due to damage, I've never had that happen! I can't even recall ever hearing of it happening on the Forum. Whose head did you clog for this to happen?

Oh, it happens. You'll get a message that basically says the mechanics look in dismay over the damage to your boat, unfixable, choose to retire why ahead or take a new boat...and it's always a demotion.

Yea, it's crap, sink 10 merchants and get home with 98% damage, you think a MOH would be in order, a four star hotel, a fifth of whiskey and your choice of the best street walkers in town...I get sent back to sea the next day in a clunker.

Well I thinkit accounts for the generous damage model.I mean 98% damage your boat prob wouldnt be running, lets face it.I wish it were more realistic or an option so if you take a direct hit from a shell, its all over or if a torpedo hits you, it takes you out.

From what I've been reading, the navy takes a really dim view of damage to their boats in RL!
