Default A GWX U-Boat Skins Question.

Can anyone tell me if the various U-Boat skins used in GWX are specific for use only in GWX and its related Mods or can they be freely used in other Mods? If so, can they be downloading from somewhere? I haven't been able to find them.

The reason I am asking is because I am putting together a Waterstreams and Exhaust Mod for the stock game using the .dat and .val files from Rubini's Waterstream Mod and h.sie's Waterstream + Exhaust Combi Mod for GWX (which causes crashes with the stock game).

Since these Mods already contain hull and deck textures from GWX in their .dat files, I thought that (for the sake of saving people from headaches caused by mismatched skins when used with Mods made by others), rather than replace these with the stock textures it would be nice to include the extra needed textures to make my mod a little more generalized graphics update for others like me who don't use the supermods.

More specificialy, I only need to know about the textures for the IIA and D, VIIB and C, IXB, IXC, and IXD2, and the type XXI - which are the only ones used in the stock game. It would also be helpful to know their creators so that I can give due credit.

I´m not a modding guru, but my experiencie is:

No problem with diverse skins (Example: Fubars Skins), and Waterstream mod OK. Only in the "data" folder of the mod there are some "tga" files.

I think you misunderstood me. What I want to know is if the people who made GWX will allow me to use their U-Boat Skins in a Mod that is not for GWX.

I am not certain but, I believe the skins for GWX were made by Fubar, and had been already released by him for all to use. Jimbuna would know if that is correct or not.

I suspected that they might be, and if that is so, than I will use them...I would like know for sure. However, the files that I download from Jimbuna's list contain 2048 x 2048 textures that are 12 meg in size while the ones in the .dat files are 1024 x 1024 and only 3 meg in size.

I was really hoping that I could download the smaller textures somewhere so that I wouldn't have to install GWX and extract them from the files.

I think you are after the low resolution skins....there are some on my FF account IIRC.

Thank You Jim, I will go check them out. So the one's in GWX are Fubar's then?

If and when I finish this Mod, there may be something in it that you GWX guys might want. I have managed to change the look of the foam as it flows past the subs to something that, I think, looks a little more realistic.

The Fubar skins were adopted for GWX and adapted as needed.
(That's direct from the Manual, page 116)

Whoops, missed that. Missed the one on page 533 too. But then again I found it a hard read. Acrobat Reader + Big PDF files = No Pleasure.
