Default Transfer to 2nd Flotilla,GWX

Hi Folks,

I was on palrol with the 7th Flotilla,August 1939 based in Koenigsberg.
On 4 August,I got orders tellling me to return to Koenigsberg, dock, and request a tranfser to the 1st or second flotilla.

While in base before mission, clicked on the telepone to request a transfer.
I then clicked on the icon for the second flotilla.
On the tranfer request screen the words "none requested" appeared.

O.k....
I went out on my new patrol.
I'm still assigned to the 7th flotilla based in Koenigsberg.
The date is now 24 August.

Did I do something wrong requesting the tranfer,or is the BdU still
deciding on whether or not to approve the request?

Thanks,
Chris

Near the top of the screen, when in the telephone, there is a "Apply for transfer" button

all you do is select the flotilla you want to change to and click "Apply for transfer" at the top of the screen.

Happy Hunting

Hmmmm...
I'll re-load the save in which I got the orders and
return to Koenigsberg, then take it from the top with the transfer.
It should work,eh?

The whole thing is silly anyway. On September 1 the 7th Flotilla moves to Kiel anyway. I have a career with the 7th and have no problems with that.

Well in that case I'll just stick with the 7th.
The war starts in a week anyway.
I'll be in out in the Ostsee when the shooting starts.
Should be able to bag a few Polish ships as the try transit from Gdansk,Koenigsberg, and Pallau into the Ostsee.

You know, I always wondered what happened if you just ignored the transfer order and stayed in the 7th. So you'd just get your based changed to Kiel at the appropriate time without having to do anything? Cool. Cuz I'd like to do a career with the 7th eventually.

Speaking of transfers and base changes, I'm currently with 2 Flotilla and returned from my last patrol in late August 1940. When I loaded the game again to start my current patrol I got a popup saying the base has been changed to Lorient, which I was expecting to happen around this time but I wasn't sure how it would work. I still left from Willy but I'm assuming that the game considers Lorient my home base now, and if I go there at the end of this patrol the game will register that as docking in my home base?

I'm pretty sure this is the case but one of the loading screens still showed my mission as "depart from" and "return to" Wilhelmshaven, so I just want to be sure. It's the first time I've lived long enough to see a French base, lol.

Given my propensity to restart all my careers every time a cool new mod comes out, I've never made it past mid-1940, so I'm not much help in the transfer department.

Well...
It's now 25 or 26 August.
I have received 2 radio messages.
One states that there are no hostilites yet, maintain my plot.
The other is ordering all German ships in Koenigsberg to head to any German port.

I've got a nice little patrol pattern plotted about 45 Km out,
streching from Gdansk to Koenigsberg.

The shooting is gonna start soon!

I'll assume home base will be changing to Keil.
Keep you informed.

Yes, just go to Lorient ... much better digs and closer to better hunting.

BTW, remember to look at your pilot chart for Lorient... the mine fields and subnets aren't where I would have assumed, so I was glad I remembered to look.

I definitely want to go to Lorient, I just want to make sure the game is going to recognize that I'm 'home' when I get there and not in some alternate friendly port.

I've got the "start at sea" option enabled right now, so anti-sub defenses won't be a problem, lol. I don't know how far in I'll sail. But I will surely disable it before starting the next patrol and sail out the whole way to get a look at things.

I suppose that if you are truly in doubt, you could just teleport and let SH3 take you to the correct one.

I don't teleport, I always sail back to within a few hours' distance. Otherwise the dates in my patrol logs would look weird. Anyway, I'm going to Lorient, if I dock there and it doesn't show me at home base I'll deal with that when it happens.

You'll be good for Lorient. I've never had a hitch on a base change. Just show up and report in as usual.

If that's the case then I'm really kinda pleased by the way the game handled it - I expected to be at sea on the date the flotilla switches bases (IIRC in GWX it's Sept 1 1940) but I ran out of eels and took some damage and since I was patrolling between Rockall and Britain and had plenty of fuel it didn't seem to make sense to do anything but return to base. So I ended up going back in late August and I knew the start of my next patrol would have to be in September.

I was sort of concerned that the game would change the base and somehow I'd load the next patrol only to find I'd been magically transported to Lorient without actually taking the boat there myself. Which is what I wanted to do one way or the other. So I was so happy when I still started out in Willy, it was like, okay, you came back right in the middle of us transferring the last of the flotilla out of here, so get repaired and refitted and whatever and head on out and we'll meet you in France at the end of your patrol.
