China launches first simulated cross-border air strike as part of Central Asian drill

BEIJING (AP) — China has launched its first-ever cross-border simulated air strike as part of joint drills with Russia, Kazakhstan and other Central Asian States, state media reported Tuesday.

Six Chinese planes, including four bombers and two fighter jets, crossed from China into Kazakhstan as part of the mock mission, Xinhua News Agency said.

The exercise also included support from early warning aircraft and in-flight refueling, showcasing China's efforts to build a credible air deterrent able to strike over long distances, Xinhua said.

The mission was part of increasingly sophisticated annual regional security drills that this year include 5,000 troops from China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan. The reports did not say when the mission was carried out.

TLAM Strike, How do you think this could be interpreted to show is pure West and other undesirable nations as China does not like, their air defenses and military forces are very well documented

Actually I was thinking that this could be a exercise for a strike on Iran's nuc facilities. Kazakhstan has similar terrain.

The PRC just ran its scare the west drills at sea. Nothing much the west cares about defending in Central Asia.

China has problems with Islamic Radicals too out in Xinjang (NW of the Country). I doubt they want any of them getting some fissile material from Iran.

Man it is a ashame we allowed investment in China, they are going to be a real pain this century, we should have done our best to keep them contained and a backwoods joke.A future generation of Americans will prob pay the price in blood one day, sadly.

Will probably be a future scenario, unfortunately, and therefore the strategy must be designed to prevent the situation that is directly threatening

Blame Japan. If it wasn't for them China would still be a bunch of feuding warlords with USN and RN gunboats patrolling the rivers.

"What the hell happened?"

Thanks, I remember when I saw the title content, several famous actors, in 1966 thought that it was somewhat later

Views like this are why many over there hate us.

Keep them contained? How would you like it if the rest of the world worked to keep us contained? Not very happy I bet...

You are beyond belief if you think even for one moment that china will ever "attack" Attacking your biggest customer is one of a dumbest ideas a country can ever act on. If china REALLY wanted to devestate us they could cut off exports for a time and reign in on debt. Such a move would DEVESTATE the economy of the US overnight. Because so many parts for the machines that run the country come from china.

There is a conflict with them coming this century....may not go hot but we will certainly be in a cold war type situation. This won't happen anytime soon but as China grows and grows, they will be more and more ambitious esp in Asia and the the Pacific.

One day in the 90 years(less really) left in the century, they will be a real problem for us that could have been avoided had we contained them and made sure they remained a backwater joke.I personally do not care if they hate us.

I am aware how wrapped up China is with us and we need to move to producing things in America again.China depends on us to import things from them. However, China is building it's military and things such as a missle designed to sink a US super carrier, the centerpiece of our Navy.

So in the next century we will spend billions dealing with China as we did with USSR, perhaps proxy wars like Korea, Vietnam or Afghanistan in the 80's in which US men and women will die.
