Default Ok guys just got SHIV in

So I have to say Im confused, SHIV even though graphically higher, seems to run better than three.Except when Im in harbours and have ridiculous framerates (7 fps) because of all the scenery, but the water reflects the way its supposed to and the game overall looks great

But as many searches have yielded nothing Id like to ask, what all mods are the top dawg here for SH4??

Id like an AI mod if the AI is flawed, possibley a better GUI since Im ssoooo used to SH3's GWX 3.0 Gui and love it and maybe some eye candy mods? as well as one that has random weather? (Dunno if it was addressed in this games stock, but in SH3 stock, weather would be the same for weeks and needed a mod to be able to shorten it up and make it more realistic and change quicker)

And any supermods?

My game is patched up to date (bought it brand new with U boat missions add on)

Thanks guys

Supermods:
Trigger Maru Overhauled - Megamod, with campaign rewrite

Real Fleet Boat - Megamod, I don't believe it has a campaign rewrite

Run Silent, Run Deep - Campaign Rewrite, with stock, TMO, and RFB versions

Operation Monsun - Uboat megamod, includes Atlantic campaign

I haven't used RFB much. I believe it is an attempt to accurately simulate the equipment. Some feel this leads to an easier game than it should be.

TMO's theory of realism is to get you to act like a real captain. The AI is quite tough, but can still be defeated. There is a mod to calm the AI down, too.

Operation Monsun is one I've never touched, as I'm more of a PTO fan than the Atlantic. However, it does seem to be the standard for uboats in SH4.

The best way to find out what works for you is to install and use them. Each one has its fans. Dive in and try them out.

Razark pretty much hit the nail right on the head.

RFB pretty much recreates the Pacific war.

TMO makes it harder, which draws some complaints, but the idea is that having it exactly as it was gives the player the advantage of hindsight, and making it harder actually makes you think twice about what might happen if you're not careful.

There is also GFO (Game Fixes Only) which, as it says, is dedicated to fixing the stock game.

And FOTRS (Fall Of The Rising Sun), which I know very little about, but you can find out a lot about it by reading the thread for that mod.

One of the things necessary in conjunction with the first three is the Run Silent, Run Deep campaign, which changes all the campaign files to reflect historical movements and battles. It's a great addition to the game.

Operation Monsun is the only SH4 u-boat campaign, and it's a good one. So good, in fact, that the only things that keep me playing SH3 are the graphics mods and SH3 Commander. OM doesn't have any of the cool harbor stuff, or GWX's blimps or LSH3's awesome Harbors and Kiel Canal trip, or Commander's crew and ship names. If those things were ever done for SH4 I would give up SH3 forever. That's how good it is.

Will OM work with TMO?? and um is there any way to change the GUI so its more Sh3 ish?? I like that GUI alot. Its like trying to play SH3 all over again trying to figure out what needs to be done :P(how do I dive and how do I make him maintain depth and such) not to mention the periscope view confuses the crap out of me compared to SH3, although the Uboat versions change it back but still

I am by far no expert on Operation Monsoon as I am now on my second patrol since I've installed it. But from first and second looks, I'm pretty impressed.

First thing I noticed on first patrol was I started in the sub bunker. It was excellent. Other subs, bands playing, cranes overhead moving torpedoes around, other ships being loaded/unloaded. This was in Lorient by the way.

Headed out and got harassed by planes and then ran smack dab into a large enemy convoy. The AI seemed a bit smarter. 3 came to hunt me while 3 stayed with the convoy. After about 6 hours of long negotiations 4 escorts found their way to the bottom. With the last two torpedoes in the stern, 1 tanker joined them. Two of the escorts were taken out with the cannon only (they came in sequence, not all at once, lucky me).

The weather changes but not so often as in TMO. The patrols so far have been very long, One to Charleston SC and one to Port of Spain (south america). Fuel management is required. This also limits my ability to give chase for long.

OM needs more looks from the players I think. I think a lot of folks are missing out on a great mod here. It is also the biggest mod of them all when you consider all the patching and upgrading you have to do to get it all.

The things I installed (OM 705 > OM 705to720 > OM Patch > OMEGU 300 > OMEGU Patch) doesn't change the default look and feel of the interface though. To me it seems more like stock SH4.

I'm not real sure what the OMEGU part is supposed to be doing. It was in the instructions for installing it. So I did it.
